Is there an auto correction feature

The key to the right of the spacebar with the "X" printed on it is the correction button. You just place the carrier on the character to the right of the wrong one and hit the corr. button. The carrier should automatically back up and and remove the incorrect character and if you hold the key down it will continue to back up and remove characters. then you just type in the right one(s). Of course you have to have good "correctable" ribbon and correction tape cartridges installed. If the tapes are old you may have to advance them by typing and correcting or by manually advancing them before they will work. If the correction doesn't remove all the ink from the paper you may have a bad ribbon and/or correction tape.

  1. Is the daisy wheel locked in the forward position?
    1. Pull the black lever back, away from the platen.
    2. Lift out the daisy wheel and inspect it for damage; replace the daisy wheel if it is damaged.
    3. Re-insert the daisy wheel and push the black lever towards the platen until it locks in place.
  2. Is the ribbon moving?
    1. Lift the ribbon cartridge out of the typewriter
    2. Inspect the ribbon for damage
    3. If the ribbon is silver, it is exhausted and must be replaced
    4. If the hammer has been striking in one place, there will be a clear area near the center of the ribbon.
    5. Turn the colored knob on the left side of the ribbon cartridge counter-clockwise to advance the ribbon a small amount. Replace the ribbon if it will not advance.
    6. Re-insert the ribbon
  3. Turn on the typewriter, insert a piece of paper into the typewriter and type a few letters
    1. Did the hammer move forward?
    2. If the hammer moved, did the ribbon advance with each keystroke?
If the hammer did not move or the ribbon did not advance, the typewriter will require service. If the typewriter still does not make an impression on the paper, your typewriter will require service.

Smith Corona XD6600 wont advance paper. No debris in the way, platen switch is in correct position.

You may have bad feed rollers, or they may not be engaging the platen as they should for one reason or another. A common cause for this is if the paper tray is not installed correctly. If you can remove the platen, check that the guide fingers on the paper pan are situated on the rests made for them. Also make sure the platen is snapped in place all the way if this is the snap in kind. Hope this helps.

The paper doesn't advance when I hit the return button on my Royal Alpha 2001 typewritter. How do I get it to advance the paper? I have not used it in years.

Hi!
I'm going out on a limb here.
I assume the carriage returns but the line does not advance. Close?

- There is a setting for the linespacing which is either 0 (zero), or 1, or 1 1/2 or 2
Likely, this has been inadvertently moved.

- Also, there is a way of disengaging the linespace mechanism to allow typing to be made on unevenly space forms. This might have been moved.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.

My brother gx7750 will not advance the paper at the end of the line

Either the linespace selector is set at 0 or zero,
or the paper release lever is pulled..This is used to straighten the paper when inserting in the unit. sometime this lever does no get pushed back,
Hope this helps!

Will not advance when typing. Reaches a certain point--stops.

Turn off the machine and see if the carrier will move back and forth.
If it jams look for debris that interfears with movement.

Correction tape not advancing

watch to see if the tape lifts up and down. this motion actually makes the tape advance. if it doesn't go up and down something is prabably broken. (motor, motor wire, etc.) if it does go up and down and it still does't advance, check to see if the spool is snapped into place on the right side and there is tension on the tape. if it still doesn't work you will need to take it to a repairman.

Smith Corona 235 DLE doesn't advance

Does the platen move or does the paper not advance? Check the paper release lever to make sure the feed wheels are snapped in place. If the platen does not move something in the paper feed motor area.
