I have used it very little, but I suspect it has something to do with release latch on the vacuum.

Hi this is a very common problem, the problem is with the safety trigger that you have to press before you press the start button, now the only way of fixing this is to take the thing apart. its not that easy to do but if you have took things apart before then you should have no problems.

you need to undo all the screws on the one side that holds the casing on then gently split the plastic apart, this then lets you see the problem what it is is a small plastic piece that has come out of place you need to slide this back on place then put it back together, once you have done this you should find it will be working again.

If you have never done any thing like this before then please leave it to someone who has some idea of what they are doing as you could cause harm to yourself and others if its not put back together properly,

remember this is electric and can shock someone, never take the case off with it plugged in and never use it with the case loose or off

take your time and you should be ok just remember where each screw is from and how you took it apart.

please leave it to someone else if you are unsure what you are doing.

its not a highly skilled tool to take apart so the general diy person could repair this for you, so if you have messed about with other equipment then you should have no problems if not leave it to someone else who can help you

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Hello. I am having this same problem. By any chance can you post a picture of the plastic piece you talk about 'coming out of place'. Thanks!

first check your sparks plug, if it was never replaced it needs it. next check your air filter, if its clogged and dirty it needs cleaning. let me know if you have any questions about my answer or if these arent the problems, thanks

The BV4000 works only on low speed. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I disassembled the blower housing (orange). The switch is a momentary closed 2 position rocker (DPST?). Anyway, I sprayed electrical contact cleaner inside the switch as well as electrical lubricant. I also sprayed silicone on the convoluted switch linkage. That took care of the problem.

My black and decker leafhog blower/vac smells like something is burning

Black and Decker has issued a recall notice for Type 1 BV4000 because "a loose connection between the unit and an extension cord can create heat, posing a possible fire hazard" Says to STOP USING and call 1-866-853-2138 to arrange for free repair.
