Ok my friends, in this moment I'm fixing this problem in a compaq nc6230...The problem here is....The keyboard!! Try uninstalling your keyboard, and now turn on without the keyboard, and now you can see the message of "Insert Smart Card" dissappear!!
If you turn the computer ON and you can hear that something's running on the background but there's no display , this is a sign that the screen's FL Inverter (this is the chip that controls the backlight of your LCD) or the LCD screen itself is already wearing out and needs to be replaced. If you can see a background image but there's no backlight - you need to have the FL Inverter replaced. If the screen is all black, you may need to have the LCD screen replaced. If you know your way around the computer, you could order screen replacement here and disassembly guide here.
Clear temp files and reboot
If you're using Skype turn off keyboard shortcuts
Make sure sticky keys are turned off
Keyboard cable/keyboard may need to be replaced
There is a screen brightness function on your keyboard, press the Fn key and the appropriate number key with a picture of a screen or sun on it. There will be two, one brighter the other darker.
If that doesn't work, you've probably got an inverter fault, or the ribbon connector has come adrift.
Different with most laptops but, remove power and batteries, check between the keyboard and the screen, there could be a plate which is clipped/screwed into place. Remove any screws and, very carefully, prise the plate off.
Look for ribbon connectors and make sure they are home and sound.
If one was loose, you've possible resolved the problem, if not, then you'll have to get it replaced.
The back light is bad in your monitor. This is the light source that gives light to the image on your screen so that you can see it. This is a common thing to go wrong with a laptop. You can take it to someone to be repaired or if you are handy you can buy the part and replace it yourself.
