I would start by taking the maintenance kit our and looking at the white roller. See if it is deplted of oil, or see if it's damaged.
If dry or damaged, replace it. But once you do, run the procedure for cleaning smears from copies.
You may have a transfix roller problem also.
That is the back roller that presses the paper against the drum to pick up the ink. It is below that green guide under the upper cover that picks paper off the drum.
I really suspect a problem with the maintenance kit.
Let me know if you notice damage to the kit or the roller. IF they are fine let me know . You could have a bad drum wiper blade.

There are no less than 5 places on this model where you might clear a paper jam. Is it possible you still have a small bit of paper stuck somewhere?

Put a few sheets of 100gsm paper through the machine to check the general operation if they go through then try your 80gsm stuff turned the other way up in case there is a curl on the paper which is digging in as it goes through the machine

With wear and tear the rollers driving the paper into the fuser can lose their drive and need cleaning

Use an alcohol based cleaner, even Gin or Vodka will do if they are to hand , wipe the rollers and then let them dry , using a strong torch look at the plates which guide the paper through the fuser

Is there bits of toner powder stuck to them if so pick them off using a piece of plastic such as an old credit card.

Brother MFC-9420CN Paper Jam Error message w/ loud grinding noiz

please try this

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Xerox Phaser 8550 drum issue?

The life of the drum is unlimited, it is just a solid aluminum drum.
The usual suspect when the drum is not cleaning is the maintenance kit. It was not stored on end was it ? If so the lubricant would have run to one end and not clean correctly.
The transfix roller could be failing, although that is not many pages on the printer.
You are using OEM ink and not third party? If so try new ink.
The last thing you could have is a bad wiper blade not cleaning between pages.
Drum heating is very unlikely. If it was not running hot enough, there are enough sensors in the machine that one would shut off if it were not heating properly.

Paper jam 11

Step1
Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.
Step
2
Turn off the printer.
Step
3
Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
Step
4
Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
Step
5
If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.
Step
6
If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
Step
7
If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.
Step
8
Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
Step
9
If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

Clogged print head

What you can try is going onto the Xerox.com site and loading what is call Jet Substitution it will change the ports being used.
That could help.
Load it to your laptop and then run. Sometimes helps.
Unfortunatly that is a very expensive print head.

Phaser 8400

The 8400 has a known issue with the plastic that was used for the tilt mechanism on the oiling roller. If you look inside where the cartridge is removed you should see a crack that opens when pressure is applied. The high heat causes this unit to crack. You need that part. Or some good super glue. I have fixed 3 of my 8400's with this same issue.

Good Luck
