Epson in my experience has made inkjet printers that function BEAUTIFULLY and produce spectacular photo realistic prints. tho when it comes to general maintenance and repair they can be quite touchy.
First start with the simplest things first, unplug it for a while. power it on and perform a self cleaning.
if it wont power on at all or perform a cleaning you may have dislodged one o the drive belts or another one of the belts that contain the sensor strip that tells the printer where the head is.
If you are good with tools resetting the drive belt or sensor strip can usually be an easy task. if not take it to a qualified repair center like at a best buy and see if they cant take a look at it. You may just end up sending it for repair.
One more thing as well to make sure of is that you have the cartridge properly seated and the contacts are clean.

When I open the top of my Epson TX210 printer, the head does not move, so i can't change the ink cartridge

Hello,
Recent Epson printers does not move the head when you just open the cover - you need to go to the printer menu and select setup menu and then select replace cartridge. Click ok and the head will move to the changing position.
Hope this helps

Press the Stop button. The print head moves to the position to indicate which cartridge is low or expended.

Epson printer: print head not moving to replacement position

Click on Epson, then Monitor status then Properties then replacement. A page will come up saying To get carriage into position click O.K. on this page. When you do that the carriage moves into position and you can take out the old cartridges and replace them

Turn on the printer. The printer head will start to move to the left; immediately pull out the power cable from the back of the printer. You can now move the print head to the cartridge exchange position by hand. Change the cartridge(s) and close the cartridge cover. Re-insert the power cable, turn the printer back on and it should work OK.

Seem unable to get my ink cartridge holder in middle position to insert new cartridge. have tried 2 TR27 copy cartridges from ABITECH Nottingham but both made the error light flash ! Printer id EPSON...

I cannot remember if the Status Monitor (SM) of the 810 has a "change cartridge" facility, but it's easy to check. Right click the printer icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and select printer settings. Then click the maintenance tab - is "change cartridge" one of the options? If so, use it. If it isn't you can download the SSC utility from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and use this to move the cartridge to the cartridge change position - don't forget to use it to do an ink charge cycle after you have replaced the cartridge.

There is also the "generic" approach. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head starts to move, pull the power lead out of the printer, or turn it off at the mains. The print head should now be free to move (gently!) by hand to the cartridge change position. The snag here is there is no inherent means of running an ink charge cycle - do a couple of head clean cycles instead.
