HP iPAQ rx1950 PDA Cannot communicate with new Vista-loaded computer

It's been five months now since I bought my new HP Pavillion dv9000 with Windows Vista as the operating system. Since that time, I have not been able to get my HP iPAQ rx1950 PDA to communicate with the computer or visa versa. I found a "solution" page in the HP website that involved uninstalling Windows Mobile Device Center, plugging in the iPAQ and then reinstalling WMDC. For a brief moment it seemed to work, but then froze and I have not been able to get the computer to even "see" the device since then. I know it's not the cable because I tried someone else's cable that is exactly the same as mine. Can anyone help me out?

HP Ipaq h1940 won't sync with Vista

Hi. While holding power button, and pressing reset will do a hard reset to your PDA (reset the device to its factory default settings). So if your PDA is working well, don't do it. As for the syncronization with your Vista PC; Winodws XP uses the ActiveSync software for syncronization, and for Windows Vista, Microsoft developed a brand new syncronization software called "Windows Mobile Device Center". It can be downloaded here: (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx). When you download/install this software to your PC, you should be able to connect your PDA to your PC without any problem, and definitely without changing any OS in your PDA or PC. Hope this helps.

I have an HP iPAQ rx1950 PDA and it my new Windows Vista computer will not recognize it using the USB cable. Is there a way to set it up as a part of my wireless network? If so, what are the steps for...

With Vista, there has been a change from Activesync to Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) which does the same thing that activesync does.

You need to download and install WMDC and then you should be able to sync.

I have the same problem, after I did the hard reset and installed no programs, this power problem disappeared. But once i installed any programs, PDA battery life became no longer than 2 days, which is strange.

Rx1950 freeze on soft reset

You can do a hard reset by doing the following...

01) Press and hold down the "Calendar" and "iPAQ Wireless" buttons.
02) While holding down these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the "Reset" button/hole on the back of the iPAQ until the screen goes blank.
03) Release the "Calendar" and "iPAQ Wireless" buttons.
04) Press the "Reset" button/hole again (so that it resets/powers on.)

Dropped PDA

First of all, you must dissasemble the pda if you have some experience with that. There are some possible problems, one regarding the display connector to the motherboard and the other to the motherboard itself.Probably the display connector isn't atached firmly to the motherboard. There is a worse scenario where you may accidentaly burned some dc convertors on the mainboard when attemting to power on after the pda was dropped. If you can, dissasemble the pda, check the connectors, remove and reconect the back-up battery, and then, just to be shure, perform a hard reset.
