Ok, I'll give quick solution for you. Tell your problems, I can confirm the problem actually comes from the freezer, due to excessive clotting in the freezer, precisely at the cavity insulation or air ducts from the freezer to lower the freezing container is covered by ice. so that the cooling in the lower container is not maximal.
How to repair:

If you understand and know where the refrigerator TIMER. you can set the timer to the defrost function. sign is the compressor will stop when the timer is set to defrost, the ice melting process by a part called HEATER , will occur in the Freezer.

If you do not understand, the easiest way is, Unplug your refrigerator electric outlet and allow you to not use the fridge for a while until you confirm yourself all the ice frozen in the freezer had melted. can be seen from a water reservoir that is located under your refrigerator. usually a tray that can be withdrawn. Ok then, hopefully this solution can help you.

Magic chef freezer model mcuf88w won't freeze

When you thawed it, did you remove ice from it using a metal object. That may have damaged the coils when would allow freon to leak out. This is too coincidental to be a problem itself with the compressor. The t'stat might be the problem. Try turning it off at the t'stat for a few minutes, then turn back on to the normal setting. Keep door closed for 30 minutes and check the inside and see if the walls are freezing. If not, you may have a compressor problem, or t'stat, or relay switch problem.

Drain freezes and bottom ices up ii have thawed it cleaned the hose and it does the same thing each time

My be that the unit is not defrosting. There is a timer that turns off the freezer and turns on a heating element to melt the ice in the cooling fins. If this does not happen the fins fill with ice and ice begins to form as the water drips down under the ice. the bottom will freeze and the top will begin to warm.

Ice on part of back food that was frozen still is fresh food will not freeze

sounds like ur freezer isnt goung thru its defrost cycle take the back panel off inside the freezer and see if the fans running if it is and the lil coil is frozen then the defrost element may be bad u can take the wires off of the element and check continuity thru it if u have continuity thru it it is good u need to check the sensor the tells it to come on some freezers have a seensor mounted on the freon line right by the coil it should have 2 wires maybe 3 going to it and just straps on the copper line put it in ice and see if it makes the element warm up to thaw the ice but if the fans not runnig replace it and this should fix the problem iif all this fails u may have a freon problem and unless u know how to charge units i advise calling someone for this because it is very critical

Does using a hair dryer to help thaw out freezer coils that have frozen over on a self defrosting unit damage anything?

I believe not. But if coil continues freezing maybe your defrost thermostat is not working

Top mounted freezer on refrigerator not working

Move the refrigerator to a room that is at least 50 degrees F.

Temps on most refrigerators are regulated by the fresh foods temp. If your garage is let's say 35 degrees, the fresh foods temp will most likely never raise enough to turn the refrigerator on. With the refrigerator never running, the freezer compartment will warm to 35 degrees, resulting in everything melting. Even if garage is a bit warmer, say 45, the refrig will not run long enough for the freezer to maintain a low enough temperture. If the garage temp falls to below freezing, say 20 degrees, the food in the fresh foods compartment will freeze. (outdoor beverage dispensers have internal heaters to prevent product from freezing !) Please don't rate this if not a Fix-Ya for you, as anything else lowers my score.

The unit begins a defrost cycle without warning

in general, a freezer will go into a defrost cycle about every 6 hours and usually from 25 to 40 minutes. After the defrost, the unit should function normal. Pull down to temp and cycle off. If the product shows signs of thawing, then I would be concerned about the box temp. Defrost may be too long or some other issue may be effecting it. Otherwise, if no signs of thawing, I wouldn't be too concerned. It's the product condition that is the concern.
