Remove the top cover?

I am unable to figure out how to remove the top cover. I removed the front grill, pulled out the lamp, but I can not find any way to pry off the top cover. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help guys. Now I am stuck, I found the fuse and removed it but on the way to buy a new one I lost it somehow. Now I don't know which fuse to buy. I also found out when I asked around that no one in the city sells ceramic fuses.

Does any one know what fuse I should buy and where to buy a ceramic fuse?

You cannot remove the top without removing the front grill and front cover. Just follow my previous instructions I should know I have dismantled enough of these units.

With the LP500/530 and SP110, turn the projector upside down and remove the 2 torx screws which are on one side. Pull the focus and zoom rings. Remove the front grill which is held by one screw. With the grill removed you should see 2 screws that holds the front cover. Now you should be able to unhinge the top cover, take care to gently remove the ribbon cable that connects the top control panel to the mainboard.

Hi amp422

At the bottom and on the sides of the Projector there should be screws that can be taken out.

Unscrew these and you should be able to open up the unit.

Replacing colorwheel on an InFocus X1A, X2, X3, and SP4805

to replace the colorwheel:

remove the 4 brass and 4 silver screws from the bottom and the 2 silver screws from the back. through the top vent on the back panel and using a flat head screwdriver, unclip the 3 clips holding the back panel on. once removed, unplug the 2 wire harnesses. remove the top and front panel. now unplug the large wire harness and remove all the brass screws on the 2 power supply boards (also the screw for the ground wire). there is a black clip in the middle of the larger power board. remove the boards. now remove the brass screws holding the metal plate on. once removed, unplug the flat ribbon cable (for the colorwheel). now facing the front end, remove the lamp and the 4 screws holding the lamp housing (with fans) on to the bottom case. remove the tiny black screw on the small circuit board and remove the board. now you can get to the colorwheel. there are 2 small black screws holding the bracket. pull the ribbon cable through from under the fan. replace with new colorwheel and reverse the instructions. the only difference, remove the front panel from the top by undoing the clips. good luck!

Color wheel replacement

good times here--take the front and rear bezels off and remove the top cover. remove the power input board and power supply. next remove the metal shield covering the bottom of the projector to expose the main board. next, cut the ribbbon cable as close as you can to the color wheel. remove the color wheel leaving the cut ribbon behind. Now, carefully set the new color wheel in the general area and tape the new cable to the cut cable. Next pull the cut cable out of the main board paying careful attention to which way the cable was plugged in. Now pull the new cable thru and remove the tape and the old cable, plug it in, install the new colorwheel and put your projector back together with the exception of the front and rear, turn it on and make sure the color wheel spins, if it kind of just jumps, it means you plugged the cable in backwards. also when you test to see if it works, make sure the lamp door is shut so the safety switch is pushed in, otherwise the projector won't light.

remove the top case, carefully unplug the ribbon cable from the main board, remove the 5 screws holding the board on, remove the 2 screws from the back (where the audio plugs are), and remove the 6 spacers from the vga/computer connectors. unplug all the plugs (be very careful unplugging the 3 ribbon cables in the middle. unlock the socket first by lifting up on the tab, then pull out the ribbon cables). remove the emi shield from the edge (metal clip with 5 fingers). remove the board!

Fan does not operate

Make sure that nothing is obstructing the fan. Try to rotate the fan with your fingers to make sure it is free. If it is, you would be lucky if the fan is at fault because this is rather cheap and easy to find if not it is the main board which is at fault.
