    TV is Sharp VT 3448X

  • snellr May 01, 2008

Yes, tried all that, I am an electronics tech of many years experience, but getting on in years, and not quite as good as I would like to be!!

  • snellr May 01, 2008

I've checked the tape out. I can load & eject the tape. but it will not play, as the power on problem is still not resolved. I did cure this problem at one point....don't know how!! All working satisfactorily until I reassembled everything, then after it had been running for several hours, I picked up the TV & moved it...fault back in full force, and not able to fix it this time

  • snellr May 01, 2008

Still working on this problem. Have now got the top circuit board off. Someone has apparently been at it before this as there are signs of a number of re-done joints. Trying all these first, the relay cover wom't come off I may unsolder that if all else fails.

    Thanks

Hi,

Initially, have you tried a full hard reset? If not, pls unplug from the mains. Most current devices would reset and revert back to factory default settings (assuming no internal hardware fault) when unplugged for a considerable period of time (a couple of hours).

Pls post back for any development(s) or even the lack of it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

The unit powering on then automatically shutting off is an indication that the built-in auto protect is activating. Normally, the built-in auto protect triggers a relay to power up or down the system and that is what is being heard (clicking sound internally). This could be brought about by any of the following:
    1. Systems fault (firmware glitch) which could be cleared through a reset;
    2. hardware fault - pertains to components that failed. In small sets like this, it could be a number of parts but primarily may be the power supply or the vertical;
    3. in some instances, a misaligned/defective/un-ejected tape could also false trigger the auto protect;
    4. any foreign material/object in the tape slot could also possible false trigger the auto protect.

Appreciate your additional information. Based on this, it is likely that you simply have a loose connection or perhaps even a cold solder. A quick fix / shotgun approach would be to re-solder all the major joints with focus on the high power devices such as the filter capacitor, regulator, relay, vertical IC, Hout, FBT and/or ensure that all connectors are plug in snugly.

Additionally, relays have been known to engage (click) but no internal contact. Normal repair would be to replace but as a tech, you should be able to remove the plastic cap and with the use of a sandpaper scratch away burns on the contact points.

Evidently, if problem persist, you may need to access a service manual (available on line here and most other sites that sell them) or at least a schematic diagram (VP-6 chassis) and do voltage checks.

on the relay, either that or you may have to break the top cover/cap off.

My T.V. Will power on for a couple seconds then immediately turn off! Please help!

Hi,
Unplug the unit from the outlet for at least 1 hour and check if the symptoms persists. If yes, check if the unit can give an error code by following the steps below.
- Power on the unit and wait until the initialization takes place.
- Press the front panel "Input" and "Menu" buttons at the same time and hold it for 5 seconds, it will activate the error code mode. LED flashes a two digit error code. Example, if the error code is "22" the LED will flashes two times pause and then flashes two times and will repeat the error code for 5 times.
"12" means no error has occured.
Please let me know what will be the result to assist you further.

Just replaced the lamp and the tv still will not power on. The green standby light just blinks and double clicks. No red light

HI:
Make sure you replace the lamp door or the unit will not power on. Also make sure the lamp is seated properly, Most people when they replace the lamp they try to turn on the television with out replacing the cover and think there is a problem with the set, there is a safety switch on the lamp cover door that need to be closed in order for the unit to operate.

Also you can check the self diagnostic mode, to see if any faults exsists.
With power off, using the original remote press the display key followed by the number 5 key, followed by the volume down key then hit power. You have to do all four keys within 5 secs for the diagnostic screen to come up. If all goes well check the number recorded on the right, should indicated lamp cover has been removed and if you had a bad lamp it is will record the a number of times the unit tried to light the lamp but failed. To exit press the 8 key then enter to reset them numbers to zero and do process over again and try to turn on tv normally, if it shuts down then go back to diagnostics screen and see what the tv recorder as error.

I have a 56" samsung rear projection tv that won't turn on. the red standby light is lit and when i push the power i hear two clicks and the green timer light flashes quickly then the green led stays lit...

I suspect you probably have a bad LED assembly. It could be either the red, green or blue that is bad and give you the same symptom. The problem is locating parts for it as it looks like the light engine is no longer available. I would have a technician look at the TV to verify this and what parts are needed for repair.

Per user manual:
Solid red - power off (standby mode)
blinking red - power off (now cooling)
blinking green - power on (preparing to light lamp)
solid green - power on

Thomson DTI6300-16 digital TV recorder frozen, red light on constantly, no resposnse to any commands. I think it needs a factory reset - how do I do this?

Try Resetting the box to its factory setting:
  • Menu > Setup > Help
  • Then press the Green Button (Even though it doesn't show as an option)
  • Then press the Red button for a full reset
Warning: You will lose all data on the Hard Disk!

I did this when mine wouldn't record anything and dumped all my pre-recorded programs.
Worked a treat.

Mitsubishi VS-50705, 50 inch Rear projection TV won't turn on!

most of the time the convergance ic go bad:
but try this:
The 3 flashes of the led when you plug the unit in is the
microprocessor initializing.

This unit has an error code diagnostics.

On the front panel of the unit press and hold the INPUT and MENU
buttons at the same time and hold them down for about 5 or 6 seconds.
The unit should activate it's error code mode.

The led will flash count the number of flashes. It will then pause for
1/2 or 1 second. The led will flash again count the number of flashes.
The unit will repeate this for about 5 or 6 times.

You now have the two digit error code. The first time the led flashed
is the first number of the error code, the next time the led flashed is
the last number of the error code.

12 ----------- indicates no error
21 ------------- X-Ray Protect circuit
22 ------------ Short Protect circuit
23 ------------- Horizontal Deflection failure
24 ------------- Vertical Deflection failure

Most units give a error code "22" short protect circuit. If so check:

Q5A00
C557

If Q5A00 check bad there are other parts that have to be checked or
replaced.

If you are able to do above call a tech to service the unit
