Red Stripe, right side

We've had our LG DU-42PY10x for 2 years and today an inch thick red vertical bar appeared on the left-hand side of the screen. Any ideas why this is and how to get rid of it?

    Hi ,

My TV has the same problem ...a vertical line on the rigth hand side after 10 minutes .....Brandsmart has review it 6 times now and have changed all posible board and drives ...so they just want to replace it. I wrote this because maybe the TV has not a way to be fix and you probably will end spending more trying to instead buy another one .

I had red stripe on the left, and two months later a blue stripe appeared on the right side. I had it fixed at Amber Electronics 281 988-9130 by replacing upper and lower assemblies, per the repair ticket $230 and $160. Total cost $584.55

2 months later it only displays tiny blue pinpoint dots and "whirrs" like a failing hard drive on a PC. For another $116, I could have replaced it at Conn's, same size 42" LG. I am sick that I spent my money.

Does this mean "tuff luck" on a $5,000 TV?

I have the same problem. 2 red strips and 1 green strip on the right side of the screen came up. A repairman from the authorized repair center changed one of PCB assemblies (Part # 6871QLH037A, PCB assembly, Display XRLT ASSY 42x2 X-LEFT (TCP), from the backside, left is correct according to the service manual). However, nothing changes. He determined that it is a panel problem.... Since a week ago, all the left half (from the front side) of the screen turned black with wired white lines. I do not know what to do.

Follow-up. I found the slip on which the LG tech wrote down the part number for the board to fix the vertical red stripe. I was mistaken in my previous post. It was not the Z-Drive board. The board you want is:

X DRIVE BOARD; Part 6871QRH043A
Type in the part number in a search engine and yuo will find multiple places to purchase. Ebay may be the cheapest. That's where I got another part which got my picture back. I did not buy this part myself because now that I have my picture back, I do not want to screw it up, so I live with the red stripe.

You need a new "Z drive" board. I do not know the part number, but you may want to look on discount-merchant.com. I have the same problem. My TV is out of warranty and I had the local LG authorized servicer come out to check it out. I had another problem as well. I paid the $120 service call charge but did not let them try to fix the TV. Each board was over $100 and you would have to pay in advance, plus about a $300 labor fee. The service tech gave me the part numbers. I purchased from ebay a board to solve the other problem (Y drive board-top). I installed it myself and it worked; however, I did not attempt to buy or replace the "Z Drive" board related to the problen you have. Apparently, this board is on the bottom center of this TV and is behind the main board that you would see behind the small lower panel in the center bottom. The tech said it was hard to get to. If you want to give it a try, be careful because you would have to remove the main board. He wrote the actual part number down for me, but I cannot find it. If I do, I will post it.

Red stripe down the left side about 1 inch thick.

This is a problem with your control board. For some reason, the resistors on this board become "Un-Soldered" I'm not sure how handy you are but this can be fixed. BE SURE TO EITHER DISCHARGE THE CAPACITORS, OR AVOID THEM ALL TOGETHER (Capacitors look like little cans. They have what looks like an "X" or a "+" on the top.) Capacitors can hold a charge for a long period of time. Here is a link on how to fix this issue. I hope this helps you.

Red line down right and left side of 42" LG plasma.

Hello; I am John at J D Electronics in Poland, Maine. I have an LG TV that was donated to me. It is a plasma model DU-42PX12X. It had 1 inch wide red and green vertical bar on the right and a blue and yellow on the left. These bars appeared intermittently. pressing on the control board would make the bars go away. I have read many blogs on this problem and they all say to replace the control board located under that huge A / V input board ( held in by 4 screws on the large aluminum frame). The original part is # 6871QCH038A The replacement ends with a C instead of an A Aprox 90 to 135 dollars. This board is used on many different LG and Zenith models and is a HIGH failure rate part. I like to know WHY parts/boards fail and I found out why this board fails. There is a large square IC in middle of the board aprx 1 1/8 inch square. This type of IC is called BGA or Ball Grid Array. The solder connections cannot be seen , since they are under the IC . This IC was not properly soldered at the factory and that is why hundreds of these sets failed. I used my hot air soldering station on it's highest setting to heat up this IC . The IC must be directly heated from the top and some heat on the bottom of the PC Board. Liquid flux should applied to the 4 side edges of the IC prior to heating. The bars are now gone! To get to this board, remove all perimeter screws and all middle screws of the back cover. The A V board will hinge back to expose the control board if you unplug the cables to the side inputs and the one to the button board. The set will still run face down on a table with something to prop up the bottom screen so you can watch the bars. If the set was run for a long time with the bars, there will be some darkening where the bars have " burned" the screen. This is perminent, but usually acceptable.

Red lines on right hand side of the screen now no picture on right hand side!

I'm not an expert, but I have determined that the vertical bars that are often red, sometimes blue ... and sometimes both ... are related to a bad control board. I've also read that a common fix is to buy a repair kit with includes the ysus, zsus and control boards ... all replaced together. My experience was that after a month or two with the 1.5" wide stripes, that you eventually loose the entire picture and have sound only. MIne comes back, but won't stay working for very long and the stripes are always there (buy used to fade and flicker sometimes). I'm planning on replacing the control board.

Red line on screen

The vertical line, in my case, was due to a bad contact on the flexible printed circuit. I fixed the problem by using a piece of a rubber eraser to apply downward pressure on the flexible circuit as shown in the picture. To locate the faulty section lightly push on the flexible circuit from lef to right untill the line dissapears. 9f78570.jpg

Red line

as you said, this is a scan problem, but maybe not from the 'board' itself but maybe the flex cable. sometimes it becomes loose and it makes a bad connection between the panel and the board. if the tv is under waranty: please call LG service customer they are very friendly and thay can give you a reference number that will get you a free repair in an authorized LG service center... anyway thats the way we work around here (qu?bec, canada). let me know

I had the same problem and fixed it by replacing the control board. It's a little nerve wracking, but required only simple hand tools. If you'd like to see detailed pictures of the repair check out my blog.
