Question about Computers & Internet

We have a wireless-g broadband router and have two computers connected. We have misplaced the software and the wireless computer is not connecting between the linksys speed booster and the router. How do we solve this problem? Is there a way to download the software to allow a reconnection?

Most of the software you don't actually need for basic connections. You can usually connect to the router by going to the loop back address of the router.

But if you need the software, it is available at linksys.com

Unless your computer also has an active & configured wireless adapter, then disconnecting the Ethernet cable between the computer and the router _will_ cause a loss of Internet connectivity.

Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router with the wireless computer.
you will need to connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
check the IP address of the computer.
open the router set up page of the router.
Here you can change the wireless settings of the router.
Now once you change the network anme and security on the router, you will need to connect to the wireless network on your wireless computers.

sign into your router and go to the section on wireless security. the key will be in there. linksys is usually 192.168.1.1 which you would type into your browser to access the router settings.

No wireless connection

Go to Parental Control after logging into 192.168.10.1. Then make sure you have allowed the MAC addresses of the wireless clients ( machines). Reboot the router one after making any changes.

Good Luck

When i hook up ther router my internet connection is lost

Did you install the routers software? It should have had step by step instructions to walk you through the procedure of connecting all of your computers, hard wired and wireless, to it. If you've followed the steps, and it still doesn't connect, turn off everything involved, the computer, router and if there is a separate modem. Then, power the broadband modem on first, wait until the lights all stop blinking, then the router, then finally the computer. Most of the time the tech support for your broadband connection will help you connect, up to a certain point, if still unable to connect they will refer you to contact the manufacturer of the router.

Newtwork connection

You have the right device to connect the two computers on your home network. Once you are connected to the router and internet on both computers, make sure that both computers are members of the same workgroup name.

While both computers are on, go to My Network Places and click on view workgroup computers, you should see the other computer as well as the one you are sitting at.

Wireless Connection

You didn't specify if you're using DSL or Cable internet.

With DSL, keep in mind the software on the PC is what "dials out" to the ISP with your name / password, and you MUST set the name and password in the router. Otherwise, ONLY the computer1.gif that has the software installed (verizon1.gif, etc) will be able to connect.

If you're using a cable connection, you don't have to do this, however, most newer Linksys routers come with a 'setup' disk, which MUST be used regardless of connection type.
