Depends on your service provider. I believe there is a default setting or tap the softkey to change. You may want to check on forums.motorola.com. i would also check www.motorola.com/support
Because it is a unlocked phone! Anytime you hear about a unlocked phone its not a good thing as most people think it is. When you unlock a phone you only unlock it to make phone calls, and simple text's. You can get or send pic's, pic messages, or even surf the web on them. My advice is to get a phone that is locked to your service provider.
2 ways:you need to either clean your message inbox and/or outbox.
another way, you need to buy a new sim card because your old sim card is a little broken.
Typically with the Motorla Krzr K1 you can't do that, usually only T Mobile software has it. I have verizon too and I can't do special sounds with it. Try going to settings<sound settings < alert sounds< text message < tone and then choose the sound you want to play!
The phones motherboard could be dead. Or a problem with the firmware. There might be numerous problems. Your bet bet is to install Motorola Tools and install a new firmware on your phone. So to the contact that you want to send the message to, make sure that the mobile phone icon is to the left of it (press left and right to get the desired icon/number) Then press the left menu key (Options) and press 3. It should open up a new blank text to that contact.
I just had the same problem and spoke to an AT&T rep, it seems when the in/outbox is too full it defaults to sending multimedia messages, so go ahead and delete all your stored messages and see how that works, it worked for me.
