What kind of modem is in the computer? How are you trying to use it? Are you confusing the internal dial-up modem, with an external cable or DSL modem?

It's likely that the drivers are not installed properly for your modem.

Drivers are the software component that allows Windows XP (in your case) to 'talk' to all of your devices.

Your computer might not be able to talk to your modem because it doesnt have the right drivers.

Right Click on "My Computer" and click properties.
There should be a tab that says "Hardware", click it
There should be a button in the tab that says "Device Manager", click it

If you see anything there listed with an "!" the device has a problem, or an "X" means its disabled...

Otherwise I think your modem or PCI Slot (or riser card etc) may have died, if the card is internal...

Is windows giving you an error message or an application or AOLetc. can't dial out?

Are you sure it's a modem and not an Ethernet port? The port looks like you can plug a telephone line in, except the port is bigger. If you try plugging in a telephone line in and it won't click into place, then what you got is an Ethernet port.

I have install windows xp sp11 so i cant access internet becouse i wanna install modem driver plss tell me how can i install what is the drivers name

use another computer to download SP2 onto CD or a USB drive, then copy onto your XP SP1, it will provide more dirvers. Be sure and remove the modem before you start all of this. And also look at Computer, Drivers and uninstall any drivers for your modem model. Install SP2 and do windows update. I would also recommend after this to get SP3.

Last step if Windows doesn't have the driver is to get the driver from the manufactures website. Some modems have specific PC software beyond the driver to use it.

We have two computers and we are trying to set up a network so both computers can use internet, the host computer has windows vista and coble modem the other computer has windows xp and is about 275'...

Hi.
You are going to need two things for this to work.
First, you need a wireless router, these usually run about $50-$60.
Then after you get the router, you need a wireless usb adapter, so that the xp computer can receive the signal from the router.

Connect the lan cable from the cable modem that is currently attached to the vista computer to the router, then connect a lan cable from the router to the vista computer.

The xp computer is easier.
After you have the router hooked up, just plug the usb adapter into the xp computer, install any software that comes with it, and after it install the drivers it will be able to connect to your router, and have wireless internet.

Make sure that you know the name of your router, that way you are connecting to the right one.

I hope this helps you out, and have a good day.

I re-installed windows. How do i connect to the internet?

Very possible you don't have the correct ethernet driver. Try looking up the driver off the manufacturer of you computers website. It will be listed as a "network driver". Good luck!
