Question about Tamron 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Lens for Minolta Maxxum

Attaching it to a Canon EOS 400D REBEL XTI

Is there a trick to attaching the telephoto lens? Is there an adapter or something that needs to be taken off the lens to make it fit the Canon camera? I can't match up the interface to make it work
...First time with a real camera :-)

This is the package I was sold from FotoConnection. I guess I won't be doing any more business with them.

Totally different lens mounts, you might be able to get an adapter ring, but it wont function amazingly. Honestly, you're better off just selling this lens and buying a Canon 70-300 instead.

I am having trouble photographing birds. Do I use the telephoto lens or the wide angle lens? I also have a macro lens for my Canon EOS 400D SLR Also what settings do I take them at. I have a tripod but the...

Use the telephoto lens.. wide angle will tend to distort the image and provide too much detail( distraction) around the object of interest. Bird pictures become more interesting when they are mainly of the bird. So when you look through the lens, zoom up to the bird to the point where you have it nicely framed with none of its parts outside of the frame.
Capture the whole image.

Wide angle lens is mainly used for scenery or where you want to take a group photo or panorama.

Err 01communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts.

Some people have reported that this error comes up when they have changed a lens on the camera, If the previous lens was IS enabled and was switched on when the old lens was attached, re attach the previous lens and switch off before attaching the new lens.
If this does not work, clean the contacts with a cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits. Hold the lens above you when doing this so nothing falls into the lens.

Sounds like your camera and your lens aren't communicating. Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the camera and the lens mount?

Date on pictures taken and movie shooting on canon eos 400d

The EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT and EOS Digital Rebel XTi do not support stamping the date and time on the image.

It is not possible to record the date and time as part of the image at the time the picture is taken. However, the date and time is captured in the EXIF information of the image at the point of capture. It is possible to print the image with the date and time via printing software. Please see the documentation for the software package that you use for printing images for the proper procedure.

Most DSLR cameras (like your Canon) don't have a live view - in other words, you can't "see" the image before you capture it. You must use the viewfinder.
