Question about Dell Inspiron 1000 Notebook

1 Answer

Power supply When I turn on my computer it starts but it turns off moments later by itself. Also when the laptop is on, the screen goes black, I usually just fold the top down and up and it goes back to color. What is going on?

Your motherboard is having issues and needs to be repaired. If you are not under a service plan or warranty... buy a new laptop.

Laptop turns on for 5 secs then turns itself off. The Toshiba screen appears and 2 secs later turns completely off. Is this a virus or some other issue?

sound like power supply or battery. first try running the laptop on battrey if the problem persists, then pull battry and try running on Power Supply only. if problem is fixed then your battery has gone bad.

Difficult to give an 100% positive solution, but try a cold re-start ie: Turn the power supply off, remove the battery, wait 20 seconds, replace the battery , re-connect the power supply, switch on. All being well the PC should start up normally.

Problem with my display its black

Based on what you are stating, could be power supply problem. Try replacing power supply adapter that Dell supplies. Go on Dell support page using your computer number and you can see if there are any manufacturers recall on the computer or the power supply.

Back screen (no screen) upon powering my T60 thinkpad

  1. Take out your battery and the power button for about 60secs.
  2. Start the laptop using the Adapter [without the battery]
  3. Lighten up your laptop...remove any external device attached [printer, scanner, pen drives etc.].
  4. It could also be a RAM problem, try changing the RAM if you have two start with one and exchange them.Clean the edges of the RAM where it get fits into the slots and blow some air in the slots to clean it up of any dirt.
After that when the system starts you can do the system restore START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS--SYSTEM RESTORE to restore it back to an earlier date when laptop was ok. THEN LATER ON PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN.
  • Try restarting after an hour gap.
  • If this doesn't solve your problem call the company people.Their might be a Video Card problem or any other internal hardware problem.

Laptop LCD display problem

The backlight is the light bult that illuminates the screen. Before it finally goes out completely it will turn your screen a pink color on startup (and then usually become brighter and the pink fades). It is also possible that the backlight, also called a Cold Cathode Flourescent Light, CCFL, died an immediate death. But usually they take a while and signal with the "PINKNESS" first. If you found that your computer is working just fine connected to an external monitor (and you moved the base of your laptop around while connected to the monitor to be sure and left the computer on for a long time) then you have verified that the screen is the problem. It is usually two things: (1) the inverter, a circuit board that increases the voltage to supply the LCD which eats around 700 volts (yeah baby); or (2) the backlight itself. The first problem is a relatively easy and inexpensive fix. You can find how to replace an inverter by downloading the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T40, T41, etc., from IBM/Lenovo's site. Replacing the backlight itself, a bulb that is like a strand of speghetti and even more delicate, is a tougher job. I would suggest purchasing a replacement screen in that event rather than replacing the backlight yourself. (The HMM probably does not show you how to replace the backlight/CCFL as it is a potentially dangerous job.) That suggestion assumes you can find a cost-effective replacement screen and do not mind opening the TP and putting the new screen in. At least look at the HMM to see what is involved. Good luck.
