I am having a problem with my Dell Precision M90 laptop. It seems to have gotten a virus and the protection software is not clearing it.
I recently moved to another state from New Orleans, LA. I wanted to clear my computer and reinstall the startup/Windows software, but I can't find my disks. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the virus, besides using the Norton Antivirus and the Windows Defender?
Try installing other anti-virus like NOD32 or karspersky. You can also try to do a system restore, this may or may not solve the problem though, also using the system restore may get rid of some application you have install prior to the date you will revert it to.

You have to take apart a good portion of the laptop to reach the Smart Card Reader spot. You need to turn off the computer, unplug the AC power and remove the battery first. Make sure that you are grounded to the computer. Then remove your optical drive and the hinge cover. Next you remove the mini-card antennas either from the mini-card or their secure spot, display assembly, the keyboard and the palm rest. Then you can reach the screw for the smart card reader and the place on the motherboard where the smart card reader connects. The full set of steps and pictures is available from the Dell support site, http://www.dell.com/support/Manuals/us/en/19/product/precision-m90 . See the Workstation Service Manual. The direct link to the English version is ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_precision_mobile/precision-m90_service%20manual_en-us.pdf . There are multiple pages you need to follow. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells
Have you checked the sound settings in Skype? Usually skype lets you to set your sound equipment individually rather than using the windows general settings.
Especially if you have onboard mic. Try the call settings sound options in skype and check to see if it is working.

Maybe your card reader is bad. Purchase a card reader that will read multiple formats of cards from a local computer store for less than $20. Plug it in your usb port and see what happens.
Seems that either the battery or the power adapter is defective. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power
adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop,
remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop &
see if it works. If the laptop works directly from the power adapter
with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case
we can suspect that the battery is defective.
This is a simple driver glitch. Uninstall the sound drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the sound card and reinstall the drivers automatically. Then you may need to readjust the settings.
