on your solution to unlock the sidekick, does that only work if the phone is already unlocked or is that how you unlock it?

You need a unlock code, I have done hundreds of them successfully, goto SIDEKICK UNLOCK SOLUTION

(Please note that sidekick unlock will let you use SIM to make calls and text, this is permenant solution).
