Typically when it shuts off right after the POST screen exits, the problem is CPU related. But since you just added RAM,I'd strongly suggest that you put back what was originally there and see if that fixes the problem. You can also try your new sticks 1 at a time and see if any test bad by repeating your shut off problem. It's not all that uncommon to buy a bad stick, especially mail order or on-line.
If this helps, please rate my post?
Good luck, and post back if you need to ask anything else.I'll help with whatever I can.

Hello,
I suggest that you reseat the memory sticks on your desktop. Most likely one or more of the memory stick is bad. If you have more than 2 memory stick, try booting up your computer in pairs until you have isolated which memory stick is causing the problem.
Hope this helps....

Have a Dell XPS 410 with 32 OS. Want to upgrade to a 64 OS. Need info

With the 410, you will need much more RAM before having a 64 bit OS becomes useful. I assume that you have the default 2GB. In any case, all you need is to buy a x64 OS and install it.

Dell XPS ONE desktop

if you do this do not tell dell xps support that you did. remove the back cover. you will see two slots for memory. goto your local bestbuy or dell.com and get 2 2gb sticks of the same speed. install memory and replace rear cover.
