Did you also remove the screws for the panel that protects that memory? Also, some acers have memory inside under the palm rest..did you check on the actual number of slots and where they are?

better make sure to keep that hardware really handy.

One othe slots for memory is under your laptop, and the other one is under you keybord. The one under you can reach by loosing the screws to the hatch. The one under your keyboard you can reach by remove your keyboard, the screws to remove the keyboard is behinde your laptop, they are on the hinge.
Be VYRY VERY carefull when you removing the keyboard, its al plastic and very very easy to break. Loose the screws on the both hinge, pull the keyboard backwards and up.
As i sayed before, do it very very carefull.

How to open desktop to add memory

If you have removed all the screws, it may be that you just need to slide the cover backwards to release the locking flaps. Try pushing the cover in several directions to see if it disengages something.

Follow these steps to install memory:
1 Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter (if connected) and remove
the battery pack. Then turn the computer over to access its base.
2 Remove the screws from the memory cover; then lift up and remove the
memory cover.
3 (a) Insert the memory module diagonally into the slot, then (b) gently press
it down until it clicks into place.
4 Replace the memory cover and secure it with the screw.
5 Reinstall the battery pack, and reconnect the AC adapter.
6 Turn on the computer.
The computer automatically detects and reconfigures the total memory size.

I'm trying to upgrade the memory on my acer aspire 5315. I've removed the 4 screws from the large cover but the cover won't come up easily and i'm afraid to force it.

whao... NEVER force something like that ESPECIALLY around the memory... you know you're supposed to be grounded before touching the RAM, right?... touch the case of a computer (on like the power supply) just before you work on it and as long as the computer was grounded... and turned on... you'll be grounded too... stay off the carpet at this point... try to do it in like a kitchen or something... or you can ruin the RAM... try sliding the cover in all different directions... you may just have to get Acer tech support on the line... I've upgraded Laptop Ram before, but laptops are different... try looking it up on the web... for a manual... I had to use one for an HP...

Remove and plug your ram back in. You should be able to run set up. Your Ram could either defected or need to be resett in its slot. To do this : e110d84.jpg On page 36 of the travelmate user manual: 1 Turn off the computer, unplug the AC adapter (if connected) and remove the battery pack. Then turn the computer over to access its base. 2 Remove the screws from the memory cover; then lift up and remove the memory cover. 3 (a) Insert the memory module diagonally into the slot, ben (b) gently press it down until it clicks into place. acfa349.jpg 4 Replace the memory cover and secure it with the screw. 5 Reinstall the battery pack, adn reconnect the AC adapter. 6 Turn on the computer. The computer automatically detects and reconfigures the total memory size. You can download the entire manual : http://hollyecho.com/download/travelmate_2430.pdf Let me know if this helps, if not we will go on from there.
