WHEN TRYING TO PRINT I GET AN ERROR MSG "A PRINTER PROBLEM OCCURED"

49 errors are most commonly caused when the printer receives a print job with commands it does not recognize. You can try updating the firmware as this will often resolve the error. Go to HP's website to find the most recent firmware, however this model is fairly old and likely the firmware update will be fairly old.

Error B200: A service error has occurred.

1. Turn off the printer.
2. Disconnect the power cable.
3. Open the printer cover.
4. Check for any orange protective tape or white polystyrene and remove if necessary.
5. Check that there are no foreign objects in the printer (such as a paper clip) and remove if necessary.
6. Close the cover.
7. Reconnect and turn on.

If the above solution has not resolved your error, the device needs to be send to service for repair.
It can be that only the print head has malfunctions, but mostly it is another defect in the printer which causes also a defective print head. Changing the print head can solve the issue for a couple of weeks, but then the error will occur again.

Step 1). Try cleaning the gold contacts on the print cartridge and on the printer itself with a pen eraser and a little alcohol.

Step 2). Uninstall the printer software and reinstall it.

Step 3). If the above two steps fail try a new cartridge. If none of these solutions work there is an electronic problem with the printer and it will have to be professionally diagnosed or replaced.

**, it is not fixed. I followed instructions on Brother web site and was able to find a piece of paper near the printhead, so I removed it. The printer makes a grinding sound when it tries to print and the same paper jam error returns and can't be cleared. I beleive that the printer repair cost will be more expensive than replacing it with a different printer, and it won't be Brother brand. I probably would not be able or have the tools to do any complicated repair job.
