The range or cooktop ignitor works in the same way as a car spark plug. High voltage is supplied to the center electrode and it arcs to ground. If the ground, burner cap, has grease or grit on it then it will inhibit the spark and cause the symptoms you are seeing. Pull the cap off, inspect the ignitors for any cracks. If no cracks, look to where the arc is going to - the exact location. Clean thoroughly with scotchbrite pad. If this doesn't fix the problem, you may have to call tech to replace ignitors. Cleaning fixes most of these problems. Hope this helps,

Ge Spectra Xl44-three of 4 gas burners will not ignite without a match.

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

It sparks but doesn't light Spectra XL44

Do you actually see the sparking or just hear it ? If you see it, then you have a gas problem or the burner caps are not correctly seated, or the burners are covered with baked debri and will not allow the spark to start the gas. If you only hear the spark but do not see it, then there is either too much dirt/grease that is blocking or bleeding away the spark so it never gets to the burner or thee is a faulty connection under the range top or a bad spark module that is weak and needs replcement. For the GE XL44 model, where would i find the pilot light? the stove is not working

There is not pilot light on the stove top since the burner is activated by a spark generate by high voltage to a small ceramic disk with a wire protruding from it by the burner.
You have the have AC Power to the stove and you should hear a clicking when you slightly turn on the burner. Once the burner is on fire then turn the burner control to the desired temperature. If the burner will not light after 4 seconds of clicking sounds turn the burner control off and make sure the round gas diffuser on top of the burner is correctly seated on the burner. It should lock in place and is removable for daily cleaning of the stove. Now try the burner control again in the light position for no more than four seconds to see if it lights.
Do you smell gas? Do you hear clicking when slightly turning the burner knob? If yes to both the stove is working and the top of the burner is not seated correctly. If no on either or both you may have a stove, electrical or gas problem.

The oven of GE Profile range simply stopped igniting

If it is a ge it would have a glow bar ignitor, either a flat rectangle shaped or a round ignitor. That is want the problem is 95% of the time. It is pretty easy to do. The floor of the stove will come right out and it probably has two screws in the back corners you can see. Remove them and the floor will lift out and you can see the burner and the ignitor.

Hi I have a older GE that the oven won't light. It is a gas range that is electric ignited. The top burners do work but the oven will not light. Is it pricey to have this fixed?

SPECTRA GE GAS STOVE

Try cleaning the sparker with file to better the spark. If you can adjust the angle of the sparker closer to the gas nozzle would help to.

Ge xl44 range gas smell

it's the safety valve, it's bypassing the gas. for you to put soup in there you will have to remove the oven burner. and put the soup on the tip of the orifice that's where the burner sits on.
