have attempted to load the Talk Group Channel ID's per the manuals instructions.I make shure the Lock-out for the Channel is not locked out when I loaded the Talk Group Id's. When I hit Scan it states all channels are locked out evern though I haven't' locked them out.

I have no problem with the raw frequencies example after being entered & them scanning.I just can't lock out the Public Utilities;Public Works; Traffic Enginering Etc out.I just want to listen to the Public Safety Talk ID's.

Any help you can be would be greatly be appreciared in advance.

Thanks for trying. This didn't resolve my problem. When I loaded the Talk 5 Digit ID's
& I have made sure that the Lock Out is not on on any of the Talk Group ID's ; I hit Scan & it Reverts to the Radio Frequencies for the Channels( Example 856.21250 ) & It doesn't scan the Talk Group ID's.(Example:
    55568.

Also I show no channels Locked Out (LO) at all during scan review.

    Locking out Talkgroups

The scanner allows you to lock out individual talkgroups while you are
scanning. This useful if you do not want to hear radio traffic
on that channel. While you're listening to a transmission press the
L/OUT button to lockout that channel, you can unlock it again later by
    following the steps below.

You can also lock out talkgroups without hearing radio traffic
on them first. You might want to do this if you are in Duluth and only
want to listen to Duluth Police and not any of the other city police
departments that are in the same scan list. To do this PGM, enter 000,
press PGM again, and then press the orange T button. On line one of the
display, to the right of "ID Bank 0-" is the scan list you are
currently looking at. Press the T button until the scan
list containing channels you want to lock out is displayed.

On the right-side of line 2 on the display you will see "lo" or "LO".
"lo" indicates the talkgroup/channel is not locked out, "LO" indicates
that it *is* locked out. To change the lockout state of a channel press
    the L/OUT button.

Press the up arrow button to look at all of the talkgroups/channels in
the current scan list. After you've checked all of the entries in the
list you can press T to go to the next scan list or press SCAN to start
    scanning again.

    Unlocking Talkgroups

If you have stopped hearing any radio traffic on channels that
are normally quite busy you might have accidently locked the channel
    out.

To see what channels you have locked out (and to unlock them)
press PGM, enter 000, press PGM again, and then press the orange T
button. On line one of the display, to the right of "ID Bank 0-" is the
scan list you are currently looking at. Press the T button until the
    scan
list you want to check is displayed.

After you've checked all of the entries in the
list you can press T to check the next scan list or press SCAN to start
    scanning again.

PS...found the above info about TalkGroups from the net with regards to a particular county. Just disregard the place names and read in context.

    Cheers!

Hi,

Please don't forget to rate or accept my solution as fixya once this fixes your problem.

1) Turn off the scanner and then turn it on again.
2) When 'Multi-system Trunking Scanner' appears, press PGM.
3) Press 1.

This will reload the pre-programmed frequencies erased by the re-init. Press scan and it'll be as new as outta the box!

This is another one you can try.

press the scan button then press the numbers 12345 and 6, see if this
changes the numbers at the top (showing which banks you want to scan
    through)

if this doesnt seem to change, press the manual button
multiple times and see what kind of channels you hvae programmed in. if
they're all 000.000000 or such, or all have l/o at the bottom, i
believe it's the S/S button (says lockout over it)

press this after choosing a manual channel that you want to be able to scan through.

I can't figure out how to program my Radio Shack Pro-97 scanner!

If you can't program the unit using the instructions in the owner's manual, there's no way anyone can post a workable answer for you here. I suggest that you join a Yahoo users' group for the PRO-97. That way you can pose a problem to a group of users, plus get one-on-one assistance in programming your scanner.

I have a pro 97 scanner and need a pc cable to program it. where can i get a cable. or is there a cable built for a gre scanner that will also work with the pro 97. mike s. email mastokka@hickorytech.net

You need either the Radio Shack PC interface cable 20-047 or the GRECOM USB cable. Both are, unfortunately, out of production and not available through any outlet that I could find. You might want to check with Radio Shack stores in your area, though, as one or more of them might still have the cable in stock. Another possible source is the PRO-97 owners group on Yahoo.com.

How to program a radio shack pro 163 police scanner

The 163 is a trunking scanner, so programming instructions are long and detailed, and they vary for each type of trunking system. Programming instructions are best explained in the factory operating manual. If you don't already have it, you can download/print the manual here:

http://www.scancat.com/OnLineHelp/OEM_Radio_Owners_Manuals/PRO-163-164-OWNERS%20MANUAL_2000164_PM_EN.pdf

You may also want to join a users group for the 163. Check Yahoo or just Google PRO-163.

For a comprehensive database of active frequencies and systems in your area, visit:

www.RadioReference.com

The site also has information that explains the workings of trunking systems, links to users groups, and a lot of other useful scanning information.

Pro-97, only want to listen to EMS

Not being completely familar with the radio system you use... i would presume that your dispatch uses a subaudio tone to "turn off" the squelch on the radio you use as an emt.... if you know that tone make sure it is turned on for the scanner on the frequency that you are using. i presume the id numbers are specific to areas of the city.
