Intel SRCZCR SCSI Controller

W2k3 Setup hangs INTEL SRCZCR

By Cato - usenet poster

Intel Server M/B (SE7501BR2) using SRCZCR Raid5
configured with 3 drives (ST318453LW) DUAL Xeon 2400 1G
RAM.  Setup hangs at "Installing Devices" 34 Minutes
remaining.  I have grabbed every update Intel has to
offer.  I tried the driver on the CD for the ZCR, the one
posted on INTEL site, and the one on the 2003 CD.  All
the same.  I went backwards and tried my .NET RC1 - It
didn't have the SRCZCR native on the CD and it complained
about the digital sig on the floppy - but it DID
install.  .NET RC1 cannot upgrade so it was a dead end.
I have a second box (Single CPU - only two disks)
Running on the on-board RAID1 (w/o the ZeroChannelRaid)
that loads just fine.  My gut tells me it is the device
driver on the CD - even when I do the F6 thing to load
driver from floppy for the "DOS" section of the install,
when W2K3 loads the device driver during the "WINDOWS"
portion it still is using it's built-in driver from the
CD.

Hello Andy,
Have you rebooted several times to see if it hangs at the same place?
After the first hang and reboot back, do a shift-f10 to open a cmp prompt.
Look at the bottem of the setupapi.log and setupact.log, the last 10-15
lines or so to see what device was attempted to be detected.  Post back the
information it you would. Both log files are in the \windows folder.
Also see if a pnplog.txt file exists in the \windows folder.  ( This file
only exists after hangs during gui mode setup after a reboot.  If created
it should list a device that is having a problem)
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Further tests...
Moved SRCZCR to second (almost identical) box (Single
Xeon 2400 only 2 disks) ran up a Raid1 array, Win2k3
hangs at the same point....
