At both ends of the bottom pad, there are metal fittings that have a rectangular hole in the middle of them. Take a regular head screwdriver and put the tip in the hole and carefully but firmly lift up and hold while at the same time pushing the narrow edge of the 1/3 sheet sandpaper up under the metal piece which kind of looks like a C on its edge. Then let down the metal piece with the screwdriver and that edge of the sand paper should be held in place. Do the same thing for the other end of the sandpaper, making sure to pull the sandpaper sheet tight against the rubber pad.

How do you change the sandpaper on a Black and Decker 7404 finish sander?
Insert the screwdriver tip into either tensioned end clip and lift the screwdriver upward to bind the clip and spread the sandpaper opening. Slip the end of the new sandpaper piece approximately 1/4-inch into the clip and flush with each side of the sanding pad.

Black & decker 7448 sander sounds & smells like motor ceased up. only makes a humming noise & feels hot.

could have had a bearing problem that caused the motor to cease up, It might be time for a new one unless you are handy, if so I suggest going to dewaltservicenet.com and downloading a breakdown for the tool and make note of how you disassemble it to find the problem, If it is the armature or field it might cost less to replace it.

I have a Black & Decker sander, model # 7447 and am having problems changing the sand paper.

The 7447 does not have a release lever. To change the belt, you must release tension of the rollers by pushing the front roller straight back until you hear it click and lock in position to change paper. Remove old paper and replace with new paper. Make sure if new paper has directional arrows to install properly.
Now you must release the front roller to put tension on paper. To do this push the front roller from the side that has the adjustment screw. This will release the front roller and allow it to go back into position. Be careful as it pops back quickly and with some force.
Turn on sander and adjust centering of paper with adjustment screw found near the front and side of sander.

Replacing the sand paper

Ok on the front and rear of the sander you will see metal wire holders. These extend each side of the sander and form a loop to which you can release them from their holder. Release each side ring and then that will lift the wire holders up at the front and back of the sander. This releases the sandpaper sheet. Now cut or add a new sheet that is long enough to fit over the sander base and fold up under the wire holders. Then clip the rings from the wire holder back in place while holding the sandpaper under the wire holder to hold the sandpaper in... same process for each holder (one front and back). That's it!

How do i refill a finishing sander

Without any more detail about your particular finishing sander, I do not know whether this will help, AND I am no expert, but here goes ...

I inherited a Black and Decker 1/3 sheet sander, with no manual, from my late brother. It is not their newest model -- from the yellow plastic and the general looks and wear, I would say it is from the 1980s or 90s. The sand paper is held by a sort of spring clamp at both the front and back. There is a slot -- perhaps half an inch wide and a quarter inch tall -- in both of these spring clamps. I inserted a wide-bladed screwdriver into the slot, and pryed away from the sanding pad to open the clamp and insert the new 1/3 sheet.

Hope this helps!
