Question about Toshiba Consumer (TV/DVD/etc) Progressive Scan DVD/VCR Combo

Accessing video mode without remote

Hey all

I have a 3 yr old toshiba television that has a faulty ir module which means that the remote, at this point, is pretty much useless. Question: Is there any way to access the video mode on said television without using the remote? Is there any of playing dvds short of replacing the ir module (uneconomical) or buying a new tv?

Thanks in advance

Mike

There are places on the TV marked LIKE - -doesn't mean it is EXACT - but you will see what I mean.
Video 1
Video 2
Aux
DVD etc -
Once you see exactly where the DVD player is hook into
Take the REMOTE from the TV -
find SOURCE - start going through the SOURCE modes on the TV changeable using the REMOTE to the TV -
Once you see the Screen that indicates the DVD - [ hint - if you start the DVD movie in it - can make it easier to spot the channel you're on] - If you still have problems - give me the exact model number of the TV and how old it is. I will help you further if needed.

Best of it

Every time I try to use the remote on my Toshiba RD-XS32SU Video Recorder I get the following code displayed on the unit: DR-OFF I do not know what it means and how to resolve the problem.

It is confusing to many people this function, but not impossible to investigate (perhaps experiment with some of the functions). You can get a copy of the INSTALLATION GUIDE (if you don't have a copy for any reason) from the following:

http://tacpservice.toshiba.com/consumerproductsupport/Manuals/dvr/RD-XS32SU_Inst_E.pdf

and if you don't have a copy of the original OWNER'S MANUAL, you can also download that from the following:

http://tacpservice.toshiba.com/consumerproductsupport/Manuals/dvr/rd-xs32_om_e.pdf

(copy and paste into your browser if required - these are both FREE documents)

(Page 48 of the installation guide (not the owner's manual) tells you about IR CODE setup option using remote - read that first if you like, then try your recorder).

Hopefully this helps you a tiny bit.

I have tried to connect my SD 6100 and am getting no picture. I get sound.

You must use the remote to toggle the player OUT of HDMI output mode to use the non-HDMI outputs (like standard RCA-jack VGA or s-video or component video output). The device displays black screen by default unless you're using HDMI, so it's not possible to see the menu if using s-video. The manual states to press the 'Progressive' button to change modes. Unfortunately, you can't see what mode you're toggling through until you hit the right one (Toshiba blew it here!!). Power on the device WITHOUT a disk in (you can't change modes during DVD playback mode). There are four output modes, so press the 'Progressive' button on the remote and wait for 3 to 5 seconds for the player to switch output modes. Repeat this up to four times to cycle through the available modes. During one of the modes, you should see output to your screen through the cable hookup you've physically attached. You will also notice the led's on the front panel go on and off during the process at times. If you ARE using HDMI, then you have to select a mode your TV or monitor can handle. When in HDMI mode, you'll notice the front panel HDMI led's will light up. There are five modes here - 480P, 720P, 1080i, 1080P and AUTO (when all four leds are lit). Select the HDMI mode that your TV works with. Good luck ~ and don't bother calling Toshiba support ... friggin waste of time talking to a recording that's dumber than Sh#@!!

Remote control problems

Answering my own question,Switch on recorder manually then hold down SETUP KEY and No 2 key at the same time.As this is a common fault with this recorder would advise taking note of this solution.
