I don't think i explained or you understand the prob which is the com-puter new has a usb port but the printer is a large plug parallel . is this feasible and do i need drivers for cable and printer and is windows vista too modern to take all this

sorry Dave 117, but the rating of inappropriate was not meant to be disrespectful, but it is the only category that is usable if the prob has not been solved. I seriously need to decide if this is worth following up or maybe just throw my hands in the aair and buy a new all in one which I have not actually needed till now!!sso really, thanks for your efforts, you actually are appreciated!!
    Kind regards
    Nic(obar)

Use a USB cable if your pc & printer has the ports.. But make sure you install the software before connecting the printer. Usually the software will prompt you are the right time to connect the USB cable & when to turn on the printer.

OK.. I just noticed several brands of parallel to usb adaptors made by various vendors.. So yes it's possible at a hardware level, but there is a cost.. And they are not really cheap. Maybe 40 to 60 dollars..? Then there is the issue of drivers. I have not seen any drivers for XP, let alone Vista. I wish I could help, but maybe there is someone out there thats actaully solved this. I'd need the hardware to make it work. If you want to chase this further, the adaptors are made by Targus & also Belkin. Also, in my experience, sometimes old drivers do work. Depends on what libraries have been changed.. Sorry I couldn't help further. Rgds,

Hey I just noticed you rated this as 'Inappropriate' - whats that all about? You might want to wait until we have finished before rating it, as you asked for help. I wouldn't have spent another 30 minutes of my 'precious time' working on this if I'd known you had done that. How rude. Thanks for nothing.

USB to Parallel connection (Panasonic KX-P1121)

I would recommend buying a Printer parallel port connection (PCI to LTP1), install it into the system, and use the printer parallel cable.

Printer is not working with my new a6742p pc

Yes. It should work fine, but there are a few IFs:

IF the printer is still good...you said it's an older printer. Also, does the printer have a USB port, or is it so old, it only has a parallel port? Some newer computers do not have serial or parallel ports.

IF you don't have a parallel port on the PC, and you have no USB port on the printer, you can purchase a parallel to USB adapter.

You also may have to go the manufacturer's web site to download the drivers for the printer.

IF there are no printer drivers for your newer Operating System, you are up the proverbial ******* creek. I have a hunch you are concerned about how to hook it up because of the above mentioned parallel - USB port issue. The adapter will fix that.

Good Luck!

Printer with parallel port not "seen" on my Mac

I've never had much luch running parallel printers on UNIX systems, it seems that a serial connection works without any trouble.

At any rate, have you tried hooking it up to a stationary windows machine, and then sharing it using windows networking.

Then, you could simply print to it by using SMB...

I've done this before and it seems to work fine.

HP laserjet 4L parallel to usb vista Jumbled font on test page

You mentioned parallel usb. The HP4L only has parallel. Make sure you specify LPT1 as the port you want. Try reinstalling the driver. It should be in the list of drivers.

LaserJet 6L with Vista using Parallel to USB Cable

It can be done tested by Thoo personally 6L printer prints well on vista too
The printer end should be connected to 25 pin parallel cable, converted to the USB on the notebook end of the wiring
To solve your printing problems locate vista driver, since i have tested vista works fine on HP 6L printers
make sure you select the correct O/S and assign in to the USB virtual port 05

HP Laser Jet 1320n series

The HP LaserJet 1320 has a USB port and a Parallel port.

The HP LaserJet 1320n has a USB port and an Ethernet port.

USB-to-Parallel converter cables, like this one, are designed to attach a parallel device to a computer's USB port.

But you need to do the opposite (attach a USB device to a computer's parallel port). A USB-to-Parallel converter cable will not do this.
