Install ram

This model comes with 2 x 512 M od ram on 400 (3200 mb on sec ) DDR1
and it has 4 slots for ram memory and by the manufacturer's specs supports up to 1 G of ddr1 on 400 or smaller in each one ...If you inserted a 2 G module in one of the slots , it will not work ....You need 1 G ddr1 on 400 (or 333) in each slot ..
The procedure is to remove the old one or keep it if you have free slots ..and insert the new one ..Avoid to touch the modules directly and handle them by the ends ..After you insert them it is recommended to remove the BIOS battery or at least use the jumper to clr .cmos on the board...and this way you will forve teh bios settings to recognize and select the configuration ..It will ask to press f1 and go to bios and confirm the settings and also set the time and date again ..
It may work without doing all that ..but it may also make problems ..
I would also reinstall the operation system after upgrading the ram memory and so make it work on full capacity .

I need to upgrade the RAM on my motherboard. I have a 512mb at the moment. Can I add 3 more 512mb as there are 4 slots? Will they work together or do I need to purchase one bigger card?

You can add 3 x 512 MB, or 1 x 512 MB and 2 x 1 GB. Check if you need DDR1 or DDR2.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If thishelps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonialfor my response.

I want to insert ddr2 512mb ram and ddr2 1gb ram in my single pc

You can do that though you have already other memory card beside. However, if the you are placing ddr2 yet your motherboard needs only ddr1 or the latest on the slots, that doesn't work at all or you might destroy your computer. 512mb and if you have the old one with the same bites it will be fine.

Very slow boot

Bruce, the Dell OptiPlex GX260 normally will be equipped with a PC133 DDR1 128MB RAM module. It is recommended that you upgrade to higher memory bus DDR1 memory module, for example, 512MB/1GB DDR 1 running on 266 MHz to 533 MHz.

Hope this helps. Make sure u come back here if u still have further request.

I have same problem as ninja9er

First try Using one at a time, since its not advisable to use memory chips with variable bus speeds i.e (333 & 266).
Since IBM Computer are little complicated i would suggest your to call the customer care or Tech support for assistance in buying a Memory module. In that way you can cross check the memory module you have bought is compatible with the computer.

Kindly give a feed back to Improve my statistics and to see If it was helpful for you...

Thanks and Regards
