How to change hard drive

Here is a link to the Compaq service manual. It will instruct you on how to access the case and, and how to remove and replace the Hard Drive.

Remember that after you replace the hard drive, if it is the primary, you will need to reload the operating system using wither the support disks supplied with the unit or with the recovery disks you made at the time of purchase. Without those, you will not be able to operate the PC once the drive is replaced.

Can not get xp to reload on to new drive

Check the disk for scratchs and scuffs. It sounds like your disk has been damanged. If you have access to a computer with a CD burner you might try to make a copy of your disk, sometimes even a damanged disk can be copied. If this works, then use the copied disk in the computer to install XP. If not you will need a new XP disk.

Hi there,

For Dell system there is always a self diagnostic with it. It will either tell you to press a key during boot time before Windows or a cd that you got with the computer or that you can download at DELL website.

This would be the best way to go since it will test the hardware and tell you what is wrong right away.
Missing files usually are coming from bad memory or problems to read the CD.
But do the test and you will be set.
Normally the self test menu comes up with one of the F keys like F10 or F12.

My PC is very slow and keeps coming up with Errors, How do I clean my computer?

1. Buy an external disk-drive.
2. Copy all your music & files & E-mail & contacts to that device.
3. Find your original manufacturer-supplied "System Restore" set of CD-ROMs.
4. Find your original CD-ROMs for purchased software (Photoshop? Adobe? Microsoft Office? Nero? Anti-Virus?)
5. Find the original "product-keys" so that you can re-install that commercial software.
6. Re-install Windows, using those "System Restore" disks.
7. Re-install your purchased software.
8. Install anti-virus software.
9. Access: http://WindowsUpdate.Microsoft.com
to get all the security-updates for Windows.
Repeat until you have no more updates to be applied.
10. Reload your data from the external device.

Compaq Presario 5102US downloading Windows 98

If U already have 98 on the pc, R U trying to have dual boot, recover, or reload 98 instead of 98ME?
The disk U R using is a recovery disk and U will still need the 98 cd to reload. The disk is for repairing or reloading the 98 system and I would suggest that U learn how to use the command structure first before attempting a system repair.
Please explain what the problem is and what U want the system to do. We R very happy to help U get to where U want to go.
