Question about Epson Stylus Color 740 InkJet Printer

Epson 740 problem, paper light flashing+ cartridge lights on

I've just re-instaled this printer after a year of covered storage. Changed both the black and colour cartridge (the old ones were expectedly dry.
Two problems - even though there's paper in, the top light still flashes and I have a feeling that the new ink cartridges aren't able to flow because of the one year's non-use, as the two lower lights are still on.

  • Anonymous Feb 07, 2009

I have the same problem as Video Ace has. I have an Epson 740 printer. Cannot get it to feed paper by using the (button) aka load/eject. The paper light is the top light & it flashes along with the power on light. Also the 2 lights on the bottom are on solidy (no flashing). I have replaced both the Black & Color ink cartridges with good ones. I think if I could get it to feed paper & get the paper light to quit blinking it would solve everything. I have looked at the electronic manual & it didn't have the solution I was looking for. I have the printer completely removed (all cables & power supply are disconnected) from the computer & have the printer plugged in to another power source. This printer is completely on its own now. I am certain the warranty has expired for this printer, so I haven't contacted EPSON for help with this problem.

    Thank you,

power light is flashing as are the paper light indicator and both black and color inks. Will not allow me to even check ink levels. Have turned it off and tried it not connected to any computer and it still does it. How do I fix it?

* RED Ink and RED paper lights flash alternately- The CD/DVD tray guide was left open when you turned on the printer or when printing on paper. Just simply close it/

when all lights are flahsing, the printer may have an internal erro. make sure all the packing materils are removed, no more tapes, no obstruction or foreign object, then turn the printer off, wait a few minutes, turn it on again, if same issue persists, that means the printer is broken, call epson to get a replacement unit if it is still covered by 1 yr. warranty. thanks.

Epson r230

If the Ink Out light flashes, the printer is getting low on ink; if it is on solid, the printer is completely out of ink and you need to replace the cartridge; if it is flashing rapidly, the printer detected a print head unit or ink cartridge installation error. If the Paper Out light is on solid, you need to install paper in the printer; if it is flashing, the printer detected a paper jam. When both the Ink Out and Paper Out lights are on solid, the printer thinks that there is a carriage error; if both lights are flashing, there is a fatal error and the printer will need to be sent in for service

Green light flashing Red light on

with regards to the status of the lights., its either the cartridges that you installed is not recognized by the printer's print head or cartridges are defective.
try these steps:
if all the inks are new take them out and get an eraser and rub the small chip gently so as to clean the contacts of the chip ( don't touch it with your finger ) reinsert the cartridges in the printer and allow it to charge.

I need to replace the color ink in my Epson stylus color 740

To force a Cartridge change press and hold down the Paper feed (load eject) button for over 5 seconds and the cartridges will move into a change position. Please note: if the cartridges move to a position where only the Black cartridge can be changed pressing the Paper feed button once will move the head so that the colour can be changed.

Before changing the carts it is recommended that you run the head cleaning utility.

When you have poor print quality and have tried the head cleaning utility it is recommended that you replace the cartridges. Ift the red lights aren't on to indicate the ink is out you need to force the cartridges into a change position. To do this press and hold down the paper feed button (load eject) for over 5 seconds and the cartridges will move into a change position. Please note: if the cartridges move to a position where only the Black cartridge can be changed pressing the Paper feed button once will move the head so that the colour can be changed.

Epson C66 red light stays on for ink

The first time you install ink cartridges, the printer must charge its print head for about 90 seconds. Wait until charging finishes (the green power.jpg power light stops flashing) before you turn off the printer, or

it may charge improperly and use excess ink the next time you turn it on. If the printer stops moving or making noise, but the green power.jpg power light is still flashing after 5 minutes, turn off the printer. If the light is still flashing when you turn it back on, contact Epson.
Turn off the printer, then make sure the ink cartridges are inserted completely and the ink cartridge cover is closed completely. Also make sure no packing material remains in the printer. Wait a moment, then turn the printer back on to clear the error.
