So It restarts itself and still says the same thing all the time

i've had the same exact problem...after waiting to play the long awaited gta4 it finally arrived last night and i was going through and playing it just fine until i died and then the ps3 was loading for about 7-10 minutes...that is when i decided to try and reset the system by holding down the power button for 10 seconds as the psONE button on the sixasis controller was not responding.

when it reloaded the message on screen read "disc corrupted" and notified me that i must reformat my ps3. So i clicked the option to reformat and after 2 minutes of reformating it would not play/load any more games, cds dvds. Even if i turn on and off the system settings to allow auto loading. Please help as i am trying to contact sony on the phone as i am typing!!!!

Guest,

thank you for your comment. I have a few questions...the ps3 i own is definitely within its warranty as it was bought in november 2007 and i still have the receipt with me. The thing is i bought it in the u.s. and now i brought it with me to the u.k. as i am now living here. Does that void the warranty at all? Also if i was to send the whole unit out, does sony pay for the shipment of the unit? I think if i was to go with the hard drive route they would send a prepaid package for me to put the one in my current ps3 in right??? thank you if you could just clear that up i'd appreciate it....

You must either replace your hard drive or send it back to sony. If sending your unit back to sony, make sure your warranty is within the proper date and you must have your reciept. I believe if you go the hard drive route you can replace it for under 100 dollars and you will have a lot more memory.

When I start up, the console says that the memory is corrupted. It tries to fix itself, but when it reaches 100% on the fix, it restarts and says the same thing it did before.

SAFE MODE:

1. Place you finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then take you finger off the sensor.

2. Place your finger back on the on/off sensor leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.

3. Once the safe mode screen comes on select the option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.

NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all data except the OS. I recommend backing up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.

Good Luck!

Playstation 3 says the hard disc file is corrupted

i have been scanning these answers for hours trying to find something that worked. i didnt want to buy another hard drive or enclosure to plug it into my pc so i tried this..... It worked first time, i just turned the system on waited for it to start getting into the loop then pulled the hard drive. it read error on the screen, the ps3 turned off. i turned it off at the power switch, plugged the hard drive back in and turned it back on and it worked first time, went straight to first time setup! im well pleased!

I fixed my ps3!! All you need is a friend with a ps3!! Swap the hdd's and boot up your friends ps3, format the hdd, put it back in your ps3 and you may need to format it again.

I tried to fix my friend's PS3 HDD that way in mine...it still gave an error every time he booted up his PS3. At that point I stuck the PS3 HDD in my laptop, booted from a Windows CD and fully formatted it that way...stuck it back in his machine...used it to format....finally got his stuff going. Took a little extra time but no problems since.

Will not play PS3 Games, HD File System corrupted, won't restore

If you aren't wiling to pay the servicing fee becasuse you've had it over a year or you didn't keep your reciept, then go ahead and either buy a new one, or go to xbox. issues like this happen with any kind of machinery that uses a disc drive.

If you are getting the corrupted drive message and the built in PS3 options are not fixing the drive then you will have to pull the drive and format it externally with a computer. The link below will help you do this.
