There are two way connect the usb device in the cpu that means front and back side of the cpu. Most of the front usb are not connect well. So you can connect it to the back side of the cpu.

If the problem comes again when connect it to the back panel of the cpu again it freeze. then you can reintall the usb device driver.that you got form the motherboard cd.

My computer just freezes and can't do anything

Could be something you have plugged into it making it act that way, (USB device or something in a PCI Slot), that the computer is not compatible with. Remove all devices from the computer which are not necessary, then again attempt to operate your computer in a normal manner. If this persists, I always recommend a clean install of your OS. This is fairly easy to do and doesn't hurt your computer.

When I plug in ANY usb device, the computer freezes

Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard, monitor, mouse and network.

download a bios update from the dell support site. Update the bios, allow it to reboot. After you reboot, go back to the dell support site and download the latest chipset drivers for your system.

After you reboot one last time, that should do the trick.

How to insatall a web cam in to the pc

If you have already plugged the USB device into the system before loading the driver, Windows will install a driver for you call “unknown device”. The steps to fix this are to plug the USB device into the computer, then click <Start> <Control Panel> then go into <system>. In there you will need to find the device manager under the hardware tab. When you are in the device manager, you will see a list of all of the hardware install in the computer. Most of them will have the + in front of them showing all is good. There should be one that stands out and most likely, this will be your USB device. At this point you will want to right click the USB device and click remove. Unplug the USB device from you system and reinstall the software. If the software is already install in the system you may be able to just plug the USB device back into the system and it will find the driver.

Machine freeze up randomly. Must do a hard shutdown. Seems like a motherboard failure

Freezes and crashes are generally caused by some sort of instability in the computer system.

The following is a list of specific problems that can cause instability along with what to check when troubleshooting each.
Viruses can cause instability.
Run a virus check on the computer to look for a possible virus.

Conflicts can cause instability.
Check the Windows Device Manager to see if there are any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs beside the listings for device classifications. If there are, contact Tech Support.

Buggy or damaged software applications can cause instability.
If the system is less stable when certain software programs are running, shut down those programs and see if the problem continues to occur. If the problems stop, chances are that those software programs are causing the problems.

Buggy, outdated, or conflicting drivers can cause instability.
Check manufacturer web sites for updated device drivers for the various devices installed on the computer system, such as: printer drivers, modem drivers, video drivers, sound drivers, USB device drivers, etc.
Update one driver at a time and see if the system stabilizes. If this doesn't work, it may be a hardware problem, so contact Tech Support.

AC problems can cause instability.
Check to see if the computer system is plugged into an overloaded outlet.
Make sure the computer system is plugged into a surge suppressor.

The installation of new devices can cause instability.
There are three typical symptoms that point to this problem:
The computer system fails to boot, freezes during a boot, or freezes during an operation for no apparent reason.
The system fails to recognize the newly installed device.
One or more software applications fail to function as expected after an upgrade.

Hardware failure can cause freezes

Fan failure, cpu failure, memory failure, could be also a cause of freezing.

Keep track of the hardware and software that is added to a computer.
The addition of new hardware and software can often cause problems to occur.

Having problems getting my firefly hard drive to show in my computer.Device manager show the device but I can not get it to my files please help

1. is the firefly working on other computers?
2. are you trying to use it in corporate computer? plugging usb devices may be restricted by a network administrator to protect corporate data.
3. is your usb adapter working. have you tried to plug another usb device to the same usb port?
4. how old is your system.? your system may be using usb 1.1 and your firefly may be using 2.0.. if that's the case you may have problems using your device in the that computer.
5. check your bios to make sure usb support is enabled in *********** board.
6, are you able to see your removable storage device (firefly) in My computer? if you do. what message do you get when double clicking in the icon to go into your device.

Can no longer see my external hdrive, also on start up it freezes my pc, can see it in the usb device but no volumes or access to it...

Have you tried plugging it into another PC? If it freezes the other PC as well, it is likely that the hard drive inside the enclosure has failed.

Some USB devices seem to cause this problem. I've had it myself. USB devices when hooked up cause the computer to freeze as it hard for USB drivers to be loaded outside of windows. Try updating you windows thru windows update though even updated I still run into the problem sometimes. If updating dosen't work you need to keep the drive unhooked while booting then hook up in windows.
