Why do I always have to hit the restart button to make my furnace run

not sure exactly what you have or what button you are pressing but if you have a gas fired furnace and you are pressing the little buttons inside the furnace to get it to run, then you should stop doing that and have a pro come out and inspect it. Furnaces have limits inside them that will trip when they get to hot. In the case of a gas fired furnace a cracked heat exchanger can allow the flame to come outside the firebox, which will trip the limit which is a safety device. Limits only trip if something is wrong. They do not operate in normal operation. A cracked heat exchanger will allow carbon monoxide in the house which can kill you. That is why limits are installed to protect you. if your furnace is over 10 years old this could be the case.

Furnace keeps tripping off on limit switch. replaced limit switch still trips, blower motor seems to work fine.

It's always possible that the limit "dial" switch is sticking leading you to believe that it's only at 150º.

How old is the furnace and when was it last cleaned.

Furnace blower runs continuously but no heat

sounds like the furnace control (low voltage) circuit is open, or in other words you either have a fuse blown or a limit switch that needs to be reset. Most newer furnaces have a small knife like fuse, usually 3 or 5 amp located directly on the circuit board. Limit switches that have a manual reset are usually located in the fire box just above the burner. There may even be a limit switch located on the blower assembly. If you fuse was blown, you may need to find out what caused the short in the circuit or it will do it again. If the limit switch was tripped, you need to turn the furnace back on and watch the flame to see if there is "roll out". It it continues to trip or blow fuses you need to have the unit serviced.

The blower on my Dayton furnace runs but there is no flame/ignition. Just blows unheated air. It continues to run regardless of whether the thermostat is calling for heat or not. Anyone have any ideas?

When the blower motor run all the time, that mean you have a safety limit tripped. One of the limit is located on top of the burner, to reset that all you have to do is press down on a little tap that sticking up in the middle of the switch. The second switch is located at the flute pipe, to reset the switch is the same procedure. The third limit switch is located on the heat exchanger box itself, this one cannot be reset, you will need an ohm meter to check for contunuity. Set meter to ohm function, if the meter read nothing then the switch is bad. Good luck.

Flame comes on, fan runs after a few minutes then unit will shut down, will sit a few minutes then sart back up, seems to be short cycling all happens within 8 minutes. \r\nmodel QVB-2505 PS. What...

there are limit sensors around fire box.you need to remove front cover.if flames are coming out of fire box there's a restriction in air flow. on older furnace could be fan belt . air cond. coil could be pluged up are all the vents open and have good air flow?you check limits by pulling one wire and check with ohm meter.there normally closed and open when too hot.most limits around fire box don't reset them selves.on some draft inducers there's a limit if it is tripping then theres a vent problem.theres also a limit on the fire box (heat exchanger) that may or may not self reset.

Dryer seems to run fine but does not get hot. (72882 series)

The cause of a gas dryer not heating can be many things. You need to diagnose the problem starting at the gas valve from the wall all the way through the dryer to the burner. Is the gas on? You may remove the flexline and check for gas. Reattach the flexline and see if the igniter is firing. It could be a faulty igniter. there are temprature limit switches that check if the dryer is overheating, if they get too hot, the dryer turns off the burner. switches are about the size of a quarter and there are usually two or more. One is a lower limit and the other is an upper limit switch The switches go bad after a while because they heat and cool many times over their lifetime. The way to check if it is a limit switch is to remove it from the circut and bypass it temporarily to see if the burner fires. If it is not a limit switch, it could be the gas valve. The valve is the brains and costs about $100 generally. Sometimes the valve can stick and believe it or not a good wack can unstick it.
Good luck....
PLEASE LEAVE SOME THUMBS UP FOR THE ADVICE!!!

The unit runs but no heat.

Your limit switch has tripped. You will find this small switch near the burner that is the size of a dime. Press the small button between the wires firmly to reset it.
