Question about HP Photosmart 2575 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Scanning My 2575 will print and copy, but, it wont scan. I checked in the control pannel and the computer does not recognize the scanner. The scanner on the display screen says, "Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot". I don't have my documentation. How can i get my computer and the scanner in the printer to recognize? Unorganized

    it seams to be a serial defect.

    I sent it back to HP, at first thay said, printer is dead, then they changed scanner, I paid, I am getting a scan out of it, but not accurate

    I've lost my patience

    i've been experiencing the same problem. only, this is the second HP 2575 I've owned that has had this problem. i performed every 'solution' HP has offered on their web site and my 'all-in-one' still doesn't scan. i can once in a while scan from my 'My Computer' if I'm lucky. Any one have an actual solution? I find this unacceptable that HP has not provided any other solution.

    I have the same problem too. It would appear that these all-in-ones have a fundamental fault. Anyone got a solution?

    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but still it doesn't work.

    i have just upgraded to run mac osx 10.5 leopard, my 2575 was fine before on 10.4 tiger, and now suddenly does not scan, do not know why, just says refer to documentation

    My printer scanned at one time. Now all of a sudden it will not scan. It gives me that same message, "refer to device documentation to troubleshoot." It seems ridiculous there is not a fix for this.

My HP Photosmart 2575 All-in-One used to scan but suddenly it would not. The HP website offers up three solution options to fix this. Their solution #2 worked for me. See below. The HP Solution Center they are referencing should already by on your computer from when you installed the printer software. It should be under the Start Menu-->All Programs-->HP-->HP Solution Center. From there you just follow these directions. Please note: When I went to add the destinations, instead of saying 'Microsoft Word' next to the Word icon, it just had random symbols. But it still worked to add them to the destination list.

Solution two: Populate the destination list The destination list in HP Solution Center must be populated in order for the Scan To function to work. Follow these steps to populate the destination list. Attempt the scan again after the procedure is complete. If the scan fails, try to scan using the scan function in HP Solution Center. NOTE: HP Solution Center is the software that came with the product. It must be installed on the computer for all the product functions to work correctly, and it is necessary for completing this procedure. Install HP Solution Center if it is not already installed.

  1. From HP Solution Center, make sure the appropriate product is selected, and then click Settings .
  2. Click Scan Settings and Preferences .
  3. Click Scan to... Setup .
  4. Click the Destination List tab. NOTE: It might take several minutes for the list to populate. If the appropriate programs are already listed as scan destinations, discontinue this procedure. The software must be reinstalled.
  5. Click each program to include on the Scan To list.
  6. Click the Add arrow. The program listing moves from the left side of the screen to the right.
  7. Click OK .
  8. Attempt the scan again. Try to scan from Solution Center if scanning from the control panel is unsuccessful.

My Photosmart 2575 v has worked fine as well for over a year and now it won't scan. I get the same message: "Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot". I ran all updates and they said I have them all and everything is working perfectly. It's not though. I still can't scan. I tried their work-around by opening paint and then acquring image from the scanner but that does not work either.

Scanning takes an image on a document on the scanner's platten and converts it to a digital file format stored on your computer.

Copying is scanning + printing.

To copy, you do not need to separately scan first and then print. Just select how many copies you need on the number pad, then press either the Black or the Colour COPY buttons on the scanner (or open the printer's/scanner's software and click on COPY), while it's connected to the computer and the document will automatically be scanned and printed (copied).

Won't scan, says usb cord not connected, but it is.

The fact that the printer wont recognize that your USB cable is connected when scanning can be caused by multiple factors.
The first is that the scanner is not installed, please check on your computer in Control Panel / Scanners and cameras to see if it is installed.
If it is, also make sure the software that came with your HP scanner is installed and running.
If this still does not work, try scanning from your computer, if that fails you need to reinstall the drivers and software.

Wont scan some checks and wont scan money orders

The software for your device has special security features programmed in that will recognize commonly counterfeited items.

This software will prevent unauthorized scanning of security documents like cashier's checks, money orders, United States currency, etc.

There is no way to remove this feature from your scanner's software. However, some software allows for very low resolution (100 DPI or less) scans of these documents.

You'll just have to experiment and see if you can scan these documents with your scanner at these lower resolutions.

My laptop stopped recognizing scanner

the printer and scanner have separate tcp\ip address's
on copier panel check system default/counter key go to scanner and check ip address also make sure file manager is running on laptop

I have a Brothers Printer/Scanner.... I have not had a problem scanning until today. I can make a copy but cannot scan a copy and set it to file. wont scan i have a 110 brothers printer

check if the ip address of your computer changed...and see if you can print... if you cann't print... then its a network issue... if your ip address changed then its a network issue... if its connected via usb... then reinstall the scanner and see if that helps...

Black lines when scan and copy documents

It is because coping is not the best way to get a perfect copy on the printer, Try scanning with computer using black and white photo it will come out much better if you are doing a pic. then use color picture.
