First, Plug in an external monitor.
Press <FN> <F4> to toggle between lcd and external monitor to see if it will light an external display.

if that does not work...check your numbers on the bottom against this list. HP knows of flaws on the DV6000X. I loaned a friend a laptop so he could send his in for repair. If the number matches your laptop you are eligible for free repair.

Dark screen

Have you tried turning of the Laptop, removing the battery, pressing the power button for 15 sec and then put it all back together and turn it on. I find this helps with a lot of issues.
to back up your drive you can remove the hard drive and plug it into a docking station like the "Hytec All in One".

HP 2000 POWER BTN FLSAHES DARK SCREEN

Try removing the power supply, battery, hard drive and RAM. Plug in the power supply and press power. If the screen recovers, add the RAM followed by hard drive. If it stops working at any point, that is the issue. If it still doesn't work, I suspect a GPU issue. (Possible overheating). If it now works, maybe a bad connection.

Replace it with a new LCD Inverter, you can address the following issues:
Screen image, but the power light stays in
Dark display, but still readable
Flashing on and off of the screen between 1/2 to several seconds
The power indicator stays on, but no display and sound
Screen images, but LCD TV still has sound
Picture cycle on and off, as well as high-power LED lights

Desktop or Laptop Computer

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

If the computer has run out of charge or is in hibernation or sleep mode,

if the screen is too dark, or if the display cable has come disconnected from the motherboard, the screen may appear black or fail to turn on.

To fix a blacked-out laptop screen, troubleshoot the screen settings, check the LCD connector and see if the computer is awake and receiving power.

hope this helps

Black screen with info that pops up immediately upon booting up

Hi:
That sort of message comes up when your computer is unable to boot to the hard drive. Those messages basically mean that it is trying to boot from a network, (which it isn't hooked upt to). Your hard drive could have failed, or your boot sequence could have been inadvertently changed too.
First, make sure your thumb drive is not installed in the laptop, as this can cause the problem too.

You can check your boot sequence by rebooting your computer, and entering the BIOS, usually by hitting F1 or F2 on start up. Tab over to the Boot section, and see what the boot order is: Usually it should be: CDROM drive, Then Hard drive, then removeable drives.

If this is ok, check and make sure that your hard drive is showing up in the BIOS on the main page too.
If not, it might be bad....
Hope this helps!

I have a dark screen on my laptop with just the

Either your hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced, or you have corrupt windows files. You can try running a repair by booting from the windows CD, or just simply re-install windows, but you will lose all data if you reinstall.

If you can't boot into safe mode then you have serious problems with the files on your hard drive, so try one of the 3 things and it should get fixed.(Try the repair first)

Aspire 6920 after power up, goes to black screen

You could have a defective LCD screen, If the laptop appears to be booting up and running and the hard disk is spinning and the hard disk LED light is flashing but the screen is dark then, to determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
