Transmission on craftsman LT1000 v-twin 20 hp hydro gear riding mower will not engage forward or backwards.

Is it a hydro gear transmission? Look and see if there is a transmission release valve at the rear of the mower. Be sure its working correctly.

my only guess is it came off and Idler pulley or drive pulley

either your drive belt has failed or your transmission has failed. make sure the drive belt is snug and not broken, do not do this while the engine is running. if the belt is good, then it is new transmission time. they cost more than a good used replacement mower.

1) The drive belt between the engine and transmission has broken or jumped off a pulley.
OR
2) Your hydrostatic transmission is dead.

DO NOT STICK YOUR FINGERS UP INSIDE A RUNNING MOWER TO SEE IF THE DRIVE BELT IS MOVING.

this happens when lawnmower is cut off in gear try this mash clutch and shake mower forward and backwards while trying to shift into neutral

hello otto i would check the belt that runs to the rearend but the brakes could be also froze up i would try to jack it up & see if it will move then go from there

a hydro uses a foot pedal on the right side , you push forward to go forward or rock the pedal rearward to go in reverse - a regular transmission has a shifter usually between your legs for reverse 1st 2nd or 3rd gear - you also said the blades wont engage . are they electric ( with a switch ) or do you manually move a lever .

My Craftsman 24 hp twin 42in cut motor runs ok as well as the lawn mower. However will not move forward or backwards something is not connecting.
