Turns on for 1/2 second and turns off

It sounds like the focus element inside the lens is stuck. This is usually either due to an impact knocking the elements out of alignment, or to sand/debris entering the focus motor's gear drive and preventing it from rotating. The buzzing sound you hear is the focus motor attempting to rotate, but buzzing up against some obstruction. When the lens extends, you hear a buzzing sound, and then the lens retracts - this is usually the cause of the issue. Unfortunately there is not much you can do externally to fix this problem. The camera will need to be taken apart and repaired by a professional or by the manufacturer. David Millier http://advancecamera.com/repair

Lens keeps getting stuck/needs a good tug to zoom past 25 HELP!

Hi Rachael_amor, If the lens will not zoom on the camera will it off the camera? If not then it has some grit, dirt, and the like in the lens. You could attempt to vacuum around the zoom however, I suspect it will need to go in to Nikon. That lens is not well weather sealed, it is a inexpensive consumer lens.

Nikon coolpix p50, lense error, camera won't work lens stuck.

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Turning on the camera.

I had the same problem. I tried turning it off and hitting the camera on the palm of my hand but that didn't work. But, hitting it one time on the palm of my hand WHILE THE CAMERA WAS TURNING ON worked. I turned the camera on, it moved the lens out and I hit it one time on my hand and it works perfectly now.

Someone suggested it was a problem with the internal lens which makes sense. Also, be careful not to hit a sensitive part of the camera on your hand. I used one of the corners.

Lens stuck

It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
