I have a front loading Maytag (1998) washer. Everything is fine EXCEPT the spin cycle is suddenly so-o-o loud it is deafening! HELP!

  • rresch4 Oct 15, 2008

I have a similar problem, but the noise only starts at the very end of the spin cycle. Everything else with the washer works...Is this still the motor coupler between the motor/transmission?

Same problem here. My coupler is fine. I removed all 3 pieces and they are fine. Could it be a bad tranny?

If you have a whirlpool, kenmore , roper, or kitchenaide washer you have a bad motor to transmission coupler. If it is another brand please let me know and I can tell you what you need.

Washer started to smoke during spin cycle then a cracking noise began after that.

You may just have a defective drive belt. The motor itself will smoke under certain failing circumstances. Can you give me a model # ?

Model 417.29042992 pumps out water but wont spin

it could be your motor brushers the only way to check is remove the motor and you will see two plasic holders on each side of the motor armature undue the 2 screws and the brushers will come out they should be 1.5 inches long and shinny on the ends also sometimes they can get stuck in they might pull out a bit to get you going if not replace them you can get them on line from euro spares just type in your make model and motor brushers if i can help more let me know

While in spin cycle it makes clickety clack noise

Most likely something stuck in the drain pump. Remove the drain pump and inspect the inside of the pump for a foreign object.

Clacking sound on agitate cycle only, no noise on spin

The agitate cycle uses the motor and a spring to function. The spring is made in pieces and asit gets older some of the sections of the spring break. To verify that it is not a loose drum. Ope the washer during the wash cycle andhold the drun by hand. If the noise stops lool for the loose bolts or replace the springs, they may be weak after that many years.
Good luck!

Rumble/clacking while draining & spinning

Check for debris in filter of pump assembly. The filter unscrews out of the machine. It is located behind the bottom panel. Remove the two or three screws holding the panel in place, gently ply down and you will see what looks like a handle. It will be hard to turn but unscrew it and check to see if there is any debris. Have towels near by as there will be quit a bit of water coming out as you remove it. It the unit still makes noise there is a good chance the pump motor is going.

Something stuck in drum, spinning cycle loud hammering/clacking sound

hi there,

sounds like you may have something caught between the tumbler and the cabinet. since the drum has holes in it, can you have a look if you can see anything that's come of clothing, like a bra wire. it's usually something bigger.

GE Washer Spin Cycle Problem

gnarly, do you have the updated motor, harness and start cap? If it goes into spin and does this chunk a chunka chunka bit. Take a meter to the white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V, replace the motor with the new kit. What the motor is doing is jogging between high to low speed. Catriver..post back.
