Generally this is because the feeder gets stuck. Usually when this happens to me, I oil the area and fire the guna few times without nails in it. All that is usually needed is either more lubrication or a good cleaning. See the following link for a diagram of the unit to guide you in dis-assembly and re-assembly. Enter the model number at the main page.

My N80SB framing nailer won't shoot the new nails (non-clipped head). What do I need to do?

For a visual on what type of nail you should use go here:

You will find a list of differnet nails sold that will work on your gun. Bostitch is about the only nailer that uses a welded wire strip of nails. Good luck

Do I need to lubricate my Bostitch F21PL nailer from time to time? The reason I asked is, I got this new nailer. Installed Galvanized 2.5 inches nails from Bostitch and with the metal connector installed....

This is a fantastic nailer, very powerfull. Information about your nailer can be found below.

http://www.bostitch.com/default.asp?CATEGORY=BOS_FRAM_NAILER&TYPE=PRODUCT&PARTNUMBER=F21PL&SDesc=21%26%23176%3B+Industrial+Framing+Nailer+System

You should not need to lube the rails for the nails to feed. Your nailer uses plastic collated nails and should travel very easily inside the rails. I would remove all the nails and check for broken pieces of plastic from nail strips. Feeder should feel snug within rails and not wobble and spring should pull tight. When you install the nails do not release feeder against the nails with force as this could break the plastic strips and cause jam. Nail not feeding is usually caused by wrong nails, weak pusher spring or pusher guides broken /missing. Simple test for proper nails.
Place a strip of nails on the outside of the rails aligned with the edge of the rails and see if the first nail is perfectly aligned with the path of the driver. If the head of the first nail is angled back slightly from the path of the driver, the nails will not feed properly. Good luck.

The gun is difficult to get to shoot. you have to wiggle it and push the nail down to get it to shoot

Unfortunatly that is a common problem for those nailers. If you replace the contact housing assembly, that usually fixes the problem. P/N 174084 Bostitch service center will have the proper parts.

My bostitch rn46 seems to double or triple shoot nails frequently. Am I not using the tool properly or could there be a mechanical problem with the tool?

if u are right nails for gun, then make sure when u put coil in and feed in front of firing pin the nails are straight with pin and connecting wires are not bent causing nails to fall out of alingnment.
