My monitor on my HP will come on with a green light, and about 1 or 2 seconds it goes off again and the light turns yellow, why does this happen? I have tried to unplug and replug, turn on and off, but nothing seems to get the monitor to stay on. I was wondering about sleep mode, could this be a problem, if so how do you get out of sleep mode?

Motherboard is detecting an error. 1st and most likely to test is power supply to see if it is weak. I did work on one last month of about this model and the bracket for one of the bridge chips broke. You might look inside to see if it's still securely attached. It will be the heat sink below the processor. Keep me posted - Scotty

Ive seen this on other monitors. Look for a 1 and 2. Some monitors do NOT auto detect a signal, and this one might not. Look for a way to set the monitor from Digital input to VGA input. Try that and see.
do you have an aftermarket video card. In the bios you have to tell the computer if it is looking for a agp/onboard or PCI video card. Either that or the video driver or settings are wrong Try safe mode to check
Ensure the video cable is connected (and connected to the correct video port).
Turn off the monitor using the monitor's power button and then restart the monitor.
Cycle the power on the monitor as follows:
Turn off the monitor. The power light on the monitor should be off. Leave the computer turned on.
Unplug the power cord.
Wait 5 seconds.
Plug in the power cord.
Press the power button on the monitor to turn on the monitor.
One of two things happens:
The image from the computer displays on the monitor and you can use the computer again. This indicates that the monitor was unable to detect that the computer had awakened from suspend mode. Turn the monitor off when it is not being used or disable suspend mode. For some computers, updating the BIOS corrects these types of suspend problems.
The power light on the monitor comes on but the screen displays one of the messages again. The monitor is not receiving a video signal from the computer that it can detect and use. Continue using these steps to adjust the Windows display resolution to the Monitor's native (default) resolution
Connect the monitor to another computer that you know is working to determine if the monitor should be serviced or replaced:
If the monitor displays an image from another computer, you know that the monitor works. Troubleshoot the video connection and graphics adapter on the computer.
If the monitor remain blank when connected to another computer, the monitor signal processing hardware may be bad. The monitor should be repaired or replaced.
I start my computer and turn it on, and everything looks fine for about 1/4 of a second and then it goes black while leaving the power light green. I can only see the screen again after turning it off and on, but that's only for another 1/4 second. What's up? I got my rosewill flatscreen as a hand me down from my father. I've had it for several years now. Was working fine until a month ago. When I turn the computer on the screen goes black after 1/4 of a saecond. I have to turn it off and on anywhere from 10 to 20 times before it stays on. I have checked all plugs to the computer and outlets. I have absolutely no idea whats causing this.
There is probably some electronic malfunctions inside your monitor. Since I will not be able to actually check your monitor, the best solution for this is bring your monitor to a qualified TV/CRT technician in your area for proper diagnosis. He's the right expert and the second opinion to that kind of problem.
Problems regarding inside the monitor are usually not fix-it-yourself kind of thing for non-expert like you compared to software problem, which can be mostly fix by yourself guided by an expert.
Try connecting the wires properly. try changing the VGA cable. i had the same problem my screen goes black some times and pink i changed the VGA cable it was absolutely fine!!!
