I'm running XP Media Edition. I was having trouble with my laptop for a few weeks and finally broke down and ran my system restore. I had given it to a friend of mine who actually did the restore, and i believe did a full hard drive wipe before the restore, so I'm not sure if he had disabled the core before or after. If I enable the core, then run my system restore, would that fix the problem? I don't have any Windows XP Media Edition cd's, only my system restore disks.

XP Home or Pro? XP Home doesn't support it, but if XP Pro then we'll keep digging on issue.

If the dual core was shut down when xp loaded (installed) it would crash when trying to run two cores.

Laptop doesnt boot when multi core processing is enabled

By multi core I assume you mean when enabling all of the true processor cores. In your laptop's case it's a Dual Core processor which means there are only 2 phyiscal cores and does not contain HyperThreading Technology (HT Technology) which enables "Virtual processor cores"

Could be caused by a couple of things:

1. Your processor doesn't support multi-core processing which is a possibility given there is no HT technology for your CPU. In which case there is nothing to fix. Even though the BIOS may have this option. You can check to see if both cores are enabled when you have multi-core processing disabled; In windows right click on your taskbar and click on "Task Manager" Click on the performance tab. You will want to count the number of processor displays you see. Refer to this to see what I mean:

The reason I have 8 CPU displays is because I'm running an i7-3820 CPU which supports HT Technology; So I have 4 physical processors cores and 4 virtual processors cores (created by HT Technology architecture)

2. You are running Core2Duo CPU with dual physical processors and have disabled 1 of the 2 cores because your laptop won't boot. This sounds more like you need to update the BIOS on the motherboard or maybe a bad CPU might be the cause as well.

Hope this helps.

When starting it appears normall gives F2 and f12 option after that the screen becomes black

Was the laptop on? Projector on?
If so this = No.

Intel Pentium Dual Core T4500,

Go to F2 option. That should be - enter BIOS Setup.
Look at the main menu (Which it automatically goes to)
Or use Down Arrow to highlight Standard BIOS options, and press Enter key.

Is the Harddrive listed? HDD0 has harddrive info listed to the right?

Dell Inspiron 1545 red processor:Pentium(R) Dual-core CPU T4400 @2.20GHz is error code 2000-0221, how to solve this problem?

this is a bios level error, you should still be able to run the system. this code is something you get when you hit F12 and run the diagnostics? or is this a blue screen error? you are probably going to need to boot to F2 (setup) then hit "Alt e" Alt F then Alt B the system will beep on the alt f but that's ok once this is done hit esc, save changes and reboot and see if you still get the error

Hi

you could try to press F8 on startup eg press power key then press F8 holding down for a few seconds and hopefully it will take you into some repair options

i would try the last known good configuration option to start with
then windows will restart and try to repair it back to when it was good

and if that dont work try the safe mode/system restore

hope you get it sorted

many thanks

Toshiba problem

On boot go into your BIOS and set your CD/DVD ROM drive to first in the boot order options, then with the CD/DVD in the drive reboot your computer and wait for a prompt to "Press any key to boot to this CD" and do so (you'll only have a couple of seconds so be ready or reboot again) and you then will be taken through the loading of files until you get to your partition/install screen options, where you'll delete the partition that your OS is on, then create a new one and then format that partition and install XP on it.
