Blank Screen, Flashing orange power light...

When I plug the monitor in the power light just flashes orange. Pressing the power button has no affect on the light. Nothing appears on the screen at all.

Ideas? I have the soldering iron ready to rock!

Thanks for the quick response Scotty! Checked for obvious burn spots, re-soldered some of the weaker spots thinking it might just have been a cold solder joint. I was trying to figure out what the blinking light might mean. I know the SONY tv's blink as a diagnostic but can't find the info on the LCD. My guess is a power issue too. I might just pop down to the electronics store and swap them all out. I think the board is $95 to replace and this is a 17" monitor so not really worth it but I enjoy the challenge of the repair. Keep the ideas coming :)

@scottyfixit..i agree with with this guy..but there is also probability for this..if your ram is damaged the screen comes blank flashing tht orange light..try to remove the ram and rub the golden bottom with an eraser and try to reinsert the ram and then go for a try..!!

1st Idea - Let's take a look under the cover. I'm not sure how tech savvy you are, but I'm sure you're pretty good if you have a soldering iron. Once inside locate the power supply section. See if you see any blown capacitors on it or any other boards. One obvious way is to see if they are bad is if they have bulging up tops. There could be some weak or bad ones that aren't popped up, but let's start from there. If there are any bad caps, they are dirt cheap price wise at an electronics shop. Keep me posted and let em know what you find. - Scotty

I had a KDS 17" LCD come through the repair shop that could come on and go right back off. Under built power supply blew 6 Caps. $5 later it was alive again.

Why is the power light on my Acer monitor flashing?

See this.. http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f25/acer-monitor-is-blank-and-power-light-flashing-green-318760.html
Also, here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your display on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

Ive seen this on other monitors. Look for a 1 and 2. Some monitors do NOT auto detect a signal, and this one might not. Look for a way to set the monitor from Digital input to VGA input. Try that and see.

Difficulty getting monitor to display when computer powers up

The Problem may be due to the defective inverter unit inside the monitor. Dry to resolder if any dry joint on the inverter PCB or replace the inverter board.

LG1717S - Power light flashing - no image.

The monitor is probably on protection.

To start unplug monitor from power and from computer and test computer with different monitor to find out if it is monitor or computer fault.

If it is computer fault and no video signal , then test:

  • Video cable.
  • Video adapter on PC (sometimes integrated on motherboard)
  • Motherboard.

If it is monitor fault , then the monitor is on protection.

When on protection you keep having a flashing led on front of the monitor , and monitor turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, faulty inverter board, faulty input board, or a fault on LCD Digital Controller board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Try unplugging the power cord to your computer tower, click the power button to drain the capacitors in the mother board then plug the power cord back in and try to boot up. Has helped me repair several similar black screen problems. Chuck Housecall101@aol.com

Green light blinking screen blank

Hi Suzee,

Is the green flashing on the tower or the monitor?

If it is flashing on the monitor, then it might be tht the monitor is not gettign signal from the tower.
To check, disconnect the monitor from the tower and check the monitor. If you get a msg on the screen like no input signal or check video cable, then 99% monitor is fine.

Check for the power supply light at the back of the tower.

Disconnect everything from the computer and then press and hold the power button on the comp for about 30 seconds.

Then connect the cables and check if it is working.

Monitor screen blank and LED orange light flashing

For some reason, it seems as if your monitor has either lost the video signal or the capability to interpret the siganl. If you have the ability, put a second monitor (or tv) to your computer. See if you get a video siganl. If you do, then your monitor has an internal issue with the signal and needs to be addressed "hands on" by a technician. If you do not see a video, then your problem lies within your video card. Good luck.
