Hi,try right clicking on the little speaker near the clock (bottom right corner of your desk top) Look for Recording Devices,if its there, left click it.A window should open, select the type of microphone you have pluged in ie.Realtek High Definition Audio.
Left click Microphone once, then left click configure (bottom left corner) A new window should pop up,left click Set up microphone, slect headset or desktop microphone and click next. You should get a Microphone setup wizard, just click the next button,at this point you should be speaking into your mic, read the line in a normal voice.click next, click the finish button.I hope this has helped, here is a web link to some support documentation for your system

Open Control Panel and look for Hardware and Sound.Left click it,under the heading Sound look for Manage audio devices and left click that.A window will open called Sound,in the tabs look for Recording and left click that.Select Microphone (left click once) and left click configure, bottom left.A new window opens, left click Set up microphone.Left click Headset or Desktop Microphone and click next, click next again, now read the lines in a normal voice and click next when done. Now click Finished.Thats it your done.Hope this has helped, don't forget to rate
