Str-D590 Hello thanks for posting useful FIY stuff about sony stereo amp. I have 2 Str-D590"s.. They turn on but they dont produce sound...Someone said they need to be reset. They both stopped working because they were bumped while they were playing audio.. Could you tell me how to reset them? Thanks! John

I tried to use 6ohm speakers on my str-590. They worked for a while then everything went blank. Had power light but nothing worked. I thought I blew the amp because the speakers worked in another amp. I put 8ohm speakers and it came back to life.

This is not a reset. Most likely one or more transistors have shorted and need to be replaced. Does the front display come on OK?

Str-w770 stereo amp

It could be just a lead, check your lead heads and inserts are clean.
Check along your leads and wires for any obvious kinks / tight bends / cuts / nicks / something sitting down on it or any damage to the wires.

It could be just the dials / knobs need taking off and cleaning in behind. the pickups, you may not need to remove them just spray with electronic cleaner b3203b06-4ced-4fda-befd-44f385f97b7e.jpg this stuff is great for lots of differnts electrical cleaning problems.
Good luck

Speaker Imedance Matching - Sony STR DE 997 receiver with 120Watts - 8 ohms output with Benz 6 ohms..Tower Speakers

hi pawanh75,

thanks in advance for a very informative setup that you have.

Here are some of possible mods , only if you like and can DIY

( or have someone to help you )

• Using a 6 ohms impedance for an 8 ohm impedance amp clearly

denotes that it heats up the output stages.

(please forgive my very technical words)

• One way to lessen the heat is to install a blower .

Use a 220V blower on top of the receiver.

( air should be in going up direction ).

• Before I proceed further please indicate if having the speaker

connected and having a zero volume , and just letting the receiver

in an "On" state deliverately produce heat on the receiver, or just

when the volume is at medium to high level.

If it s running hot at zero level with speaker , please post.

If it is running hot even without speaker, post also

• It may also helps , if you have a powered subwoofer ( for the low's),

and set settings on your receiver to "small"

Let me know what you find to help you further.

Hi, i have a sony i received from someone no manual, i have pretty good speakers but the sound output is no good. is it the unit does not have the wattage or i do not have it hook up right

Unless you're trying to really crank it up, any speaker should work on almost any amp if the hookup is correct. If the impedance or such is off, that won't show up at low volumes and I assume your sound is bad at any volume. Look for Main Left and Main Right and start there. 4 wires - 2 speakers, not too hard. Select a simple stereo source (like a CD) and see how it goes. That will verify the amp/speaker setup (at least for those 2). If that doesn't work, there may be an internal issue in the amp which is why "someone" was getting rid of it.

Connecting pc audio to str-de898

You're close. PHONO is NEVER the place to send Line Level signals. It is for the small output produced by a phono cartridge only. Google RIAA equalization to see why it sounds so bad when connected that way.

That you get sound through Phono at least proves your PC is producing an output. Now we have to figure out why your RECEIVER doesn't sense the program where it should be connected.

If you have another analog audio source that works on the receiver, temporarily connect the PC audio there to see how it sounds. Then think about why it doesn't work in MD/TAPE, SA-CD/CD, TV/SAT, DVD, or either Video IN. Any of those should work.

The sound on my sony amplifier sounds too low inside the speaker.

Try getting the suround sound modes off and using straight stereo ,with no delays,or echos,

Can I still used this equipment

Hi Jerome

You will need either a pre-in pre-out connection on the amp to use, A vcr in/out loop can be used in lieu of a "tape" loop. Or alternatively you can put the EQ in line with the bit of gear you want to EQ. In this day and age, of "many more than stereo" systems, a 2 channel EQ has much less application. Although this seems to "outdate" a piece of gear, most stuff from yesteryear still sounds great, so why stop using it. Good Luck and happy listening. A "FixYa" rating from you would help my profile. I am happy to answer any questions you may still have, put them in here and I shall get back to you.

Sony STR-DE545 5.1 Channels Receiver

It sounds like you have unit in setup mode. The "L C R" is Left, Center, Right. You can set balance and volume levels of each with this mode.
Use remote to select 5.1 dolby surround to get unit out of 2/1 "stereo"
