Looking at the image of the machine; the DVD drive is a vertically loaded slot.
replacing the DVD reader/writer with a Blue Ray one... not entirely sure if it's possible without advice from the manufacturer (contact them to be 100% sure).
because of the physical dimentions of the screen; the DVD drive will be a laptop dvd drive not a normal desktop one.... so you could hunt online for a slot loaded Blue ray drive for a laptop... but again no guarantee without manufacturers confirmation.
most machines past 2005 have SATA connections inside for the optical drives; but also confirm this before spending money.

Netbooks are done without space for DVD drive, so you must purchase external DVD drive.

It is connected via USB, and I think doesn't need any other source of power.

Check to ensure compatibility between your laptop and the Acer Aspire 5510 CD-RW Drive you purchase. If buying online, make sure to read all of the drive's profile to check for compatibility information. 2. Remove the Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM CD-RW Combo Drive that your laptop currently has. Depending on how the laptop is designed, you should find 1-to-3 screws holding the drive in place; these screws may be on the bottom of the laptop or on the side next to the drive. Carefully remove the old drive, pulling gently yet firmly if you encounter resistance/ This will be the drive unplugging from the laptop's drive interface, so a small amount of resistance is not unusual. Any brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer with LightScribe *WILL* be compatible with your HP.
Check whether your "power" and "data" cables are the "old" style (white power connector and a 80-pin ribbon-cable) or the "new" style (thin SATA cables), before you buy a writer with the "wrong" (PATA versus SATA) interface.

The answer is yes and no

No in the sense that you only have one IDE controller which is currently feeding your CD/DVD drive and the other is 1 SATA controller that is going to your hard drive HOWEVER yes in the sense if you purchase a sata splitter for the drive and a sata splitter for the power you could power both the SATA burner and Hard drive off the main cable.

This is not recommended and you do so at your own risk

Two thing here that can be the issue.

1. Bad Sata controller onboard
2. Sata controller is disabled in the bios.

The Fix

1. Purchase a independent sata controller there like $25 bucks.

2. Try going into the bios under advanced and make sure its not disabled.

Hi:
Yes, you can replace your DVD writer with any other model, but there are 2 types, SATA and IDE.
The IDE drives connect with a wide , flat ribbon connector, and the newer, SATA drives take a smaller cable.

They are easy to swap out, and are basically plug and play!

I do not have a manual for the ACER sa20 but it appears that it only has a PATA drive controler and not SATA. You can get a PATA to SATA converter on Ebay or buy a SATA controler card or buy a PATA DVD drive instead of the SATA one.

put the sata cable to sata terminal and also connet the sata power cable to drive.

What do you mean by dvd writer? Are you talking about a dvd program? What exactly are you trying to do?
