SOURCE: I need an OCR program (on a Lexmark disc I don't have)

I can certainly recommend this free online OCR service: http://www.free-online-ocr.com.
If you would rather use a desktop application, there are many good ones, such as ABBYY FineReader or OmniPage. You can find more information on this website: http://www.ocrworld.com

What do you mean by (ocr) on an x2670

Optical character recognition, usually abbreviated to OCR, is the mechanical or electronic translation of scanned images of handwritten, typewritten or printed text into machine-encoded text.
These can be scanned in a word processor or other programs, then can be modified. It is software usually include with your Printer/Scanner

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

Thanks, Joe

Can I scan a hard copy into Word from an HP PSC 1610? I want to get an editable document, but don't know how. Is this possible or is there a different solution? Thanks.

the cd that came with your printer should have an OCR program included with it. if not, you can download a free trial of a known OCR program here. btw, OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. it's the only way to scan documents to an editable form.

How can I scan a documtent and save it in my word processor

A scan of a document is only a picture of the document. That is, it's the same as if you had just used a copying machine. It's not text that you can work with. You need to take that scanned image and feed it to an optical character recognition (OCR) program to convert it into text that you can use. Most scanners come bundled with OCR software when you buy them. You can also look on the internet for OCR programs.

Once you have OCR software installed, many scanners will automatically feed the scanned image to the OCR program when you scan a document. Be ready to do some extra work, though. While it's good, most OCR software is not 100% accurate. Depending on the font and formatting used in the original document, the program may decide on the wrong character when converting. You will also lose formatting (font sizes, types and so on), and end up with plain text. You'll need to put that in yourself when you paste the text into your Word document.

Scanning

As with most scanners, place the document in the scanner for scanning. Open the software that you wish to use. Select "File" from the menu and then "Import". Your scanner interface listing should appear. Click on the device to begin your import from your scanner. Your scanner should scan the document and it will appear in your application. Be advised, Scanners scan in a Graphic format. To edit in a wordprocessor you will need some kind of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Software to convert the graphics into a wordable form for editing.

Problem using OCR with Canon MP610 all-in-one

I got this message too, before I installed an OCR program. It may be that you need to install one (or specify it, if you have one already). With my MP610, an installation disk was included that contained the OmniPage SE program for OCR. When I installed that on my computer, and told MP Navigator (another Canon-supplied program, that controls scanning) to use it as the "Open With" program for OCR, it worked.

OCR

To scan a document for editing purposes, you will need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. OCR software is not included with your model.
OCR software interprets the scanned document for editing purposes. The Epson driver alone only scans documents as image files and is not capable of this interpretation.
Some reputable OCR software programs on the market are:
Omni Page Pro
ABBYY FineReader Pro
Presto! OCR 4.0
Please understand that Epson has NOT tested our products with these programs. They do not know if these programs are TWAIN compliant and will import directly from our scanners. I recommend that you contact these companies for full compatibility information if you are interested.
