Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

The tv is over 12 months old, and has been working fine, also has been used as a pc monitor. But now when it is switched on, we get a picture for about 30 seconds, then it goes off. Question, does anyone know if this is a minor repairable fault, or a more costly, replace screen fault?

I dont feel this is a simple soultion. here is list of thing it could be from simple to hard.

1 capacitor bad in power supply
2 cold solder joints on board
3 voltage regulator ps

I feel this will be a middle line repair cost 150 to 300.

Without the make and model, it is difficult to state specifics. It can be anything from a simple bad connection to a majro part needing replacing. Pleae post the make and ,model as well as any other symptoms that exist. For example, is there a standby light? Does it blink? How many times? Any clicks?
Thanks,
Dan

When I turn on my Vizio, the picture is "squished" and the bottom 1/3rd of the screen is white static. The TV is only 6 months old.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

The power button is violet, the monitor won't work

robyn_e_fox, Here is what I would try to do first if my 12 to 15 month old LCD monitor started doing STRANGE things!! If possible try to substitute a KNOWN GOOD monitor in it's place to make certain that your PC is working properly. If PC is OK then you know or are pretty sure that your LCD could be having an internal problem that a technician will need to diagnose and repair. Before paying for ANY repair you should contact the monitor manufacturer and complain about the short life and PREMATURE FAILURE of this LCD. Check to see if they also have a swap-out program in place. And last but not least check with the store where you originally purchased the LCD on what you should do. Hope this helped. loiue12fix on fixya lmistyrel @aol.com

Sound but no picture. menus work.

I had the same problem. In the menu, the image button was grey, and could not be hi-lighted, and the screen stayed blue. I was using the AC power cord. I plugged in the DC power cord instead, and it "woke" the unit up. I switched back to the AC power and it works fine. If you don't hve the DC cord that came with the TV, try andy 12 volt dc output cord with a positive tip.

Blue tint...then unresponsive...only 5 months old

You're probably lucky that this happened now. You're most likely still covered under warranty. Contact Acer support and arrange a swap. If your pc works okay with another monitor there's no point in troubleshooting further. Get that monitor switched before the warranty runs out.

Sometimes sound but no picture

HHMMMMMMM. 12 error code is no fault code. This is very old set with a reputation of dumping it's memory setting for no particular reason. The board need is no longer available and if it was requires extensive setup. Very costly to repair. Replace the set. Very old. Tubes probably weakening.

I have a 2 year old CTX S760A monitor, when I switch on the computer the monitor switches on and off several times about 25-30 times before stabilising. It works well after that. This has been happening...

First, I would try connecting a different monitor if possible. If the problem persists, it would be a problem with your computers video card. If the 2nd monitor works fine, then your monitor is at fault and may need to be replaced.

Monitor won't work

Try adjusting the video connection on the back of the monitor and kinda wiggle it from side to side to see if there's a loose connection. One other thing to check (In case it's a newer LCD) is that the video isn't switched to DVI (It should be automatic, but it can't hurt to take note of this)
