Question about Projection Televisions

2 Answers

The tv is over 12 months old, and has been working fine, also has been used as a pc monitor. But now when it is switched on, we get a picture for about 30 seconds, then it goes off. Question, does anyone know if this is a minor repairable fault, or a more costly, replace screen fault?

I dont feel this is a simple soultion. here is list of thing it could be from simple to hard.

1 capacitor bad in power supply
2 cold solder joints on board
3 voltage regulator ps

I feel this will be a middle line repair cost 150 to 300.

Without the make and model, it is difficult to state specifics. It can be anything from a simple bad connection to a majro part needing replacing. Pleae post the make and ,model as well as any other symptoms that exist. For example, is there a standby light? Does it blink? How many times? Any clicks?
Thanks,
Dan

Whats the value of a mitsubishi 48 inch tv, model is ws-48511?

this is mostly in the eye of the one who thinks they need one!

12 months of age 60% its purchase price if it is in good working condition
24 months 50%
36 months 25-30%
48 months 10-15%

Beyond that it will be heritage listed and bring twice the price of its original outlay and be sought after by Mitsubishi who will be amazed that they actually made a TV that lasted that long. The average life of amy Mitsubishi and quite a few other modern Tv's is about 3 years before they require huge repair expenditure.
Often better to update wvery 12 months if you can afford it as they are not built to last like the old CRT's that will still deliver on a set top box long after plasmas and rear projections have been retired.

please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

Sometimes sound but no picture

HHMMMMMMM. 12 error code is no fault code. This is very old set with a reputation of dumping it's memory setting for no particular reason. The board need is no longer available and if it was requires extensive setup. Very costly to repair. Replace the set. Very old. Tubes probably weakening.

12 year old Mitshubishis usualy only need a dozen or so capacitors to get them running again but at 12 years old bet the CRTs are worn and the picture quality will be low, We have a saying in the TV repair business that might help you out, TV's age like cats, so you have a 12 year old cat what do you do?

RCA DLP HD50LPW166 Works fine for 15sec

Same Problem here. After some investigating and speaking with one Lamp supplier they told me to replace the Lamp Ballast first (this is mine EUC 120 P/H11 9137 008 09405). I found one on Ebay. Since this may also wear out the bulb, I may have to replace that also. If I can get my TV working (HD50LPW166YX6) for around $150.00 for both, I'll be happy even if i get only 6 month of use out of it. Did I mention the TV was free? :o) Hope this helps.

I am trying to connect my laptop to the Polaroid LCD TV, as i would like to use the TV monitor as a computer monitor (my laptop monitor is broken). So I connect the correct wire to correct places, however...

The simple patch that I found (same problem) was to start by using any old monitor that I could borrow to set up my Dell Laptop.
After getting the Laptop booted on a regular monitor I right clicked on the desktop and went to properties then to the settings tab.
Here I found the dual monitor settings (#2 will usually be dis-abled by default.)
Click on #2 monitor and set the resolution to the lowest number (800 x 600 works well)
Then I clicked on "make this monitor my primary monitor"
As soon as I clicked apply the PC Windows screen appeared on the Polaroid TV screen

Earlier I had set the secondary monitor as "extend this screen to this monitor"
This also worked but I had to "drag the current screen to the right all the way off the
"borrowed monitor" until it appeared on the TV screen. The mouse pointer will be there also.
At first it took a little getting used to but in a few minutes I was up and running.
Hope this helps your situation
