Some voices on the satnav don't support street names. It's likely that the voice which used to has become unselected or corrupted.
1. Press Tools, then Settings, then Language and you will see a setting for Voice. Press Voice and change to a different one. If there's not another voice there or the other voice file is corrupted you can download more.
2. Connect your satnav to your computer. Download and install webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and your satnav will look for updates. When it has finished it will give you an option to download voices. Tick the ones you want and click next. When they have been downloaded to your satnav and you have disconnected your satnav from your computer select a new voice as described in paragraph 1 above.

How do make the gps announce the street name to

Neither the Nuvi 250W nor the Nuvi 205W have Text to Speech (which is the feature that allows the unit to speak the street names), so you cannot make yours speak street names. I'm sorry.

My garmin 750 doesn't identify the streets that i should be turning at.Just tells me distance when to turn.

Do you mean it is not speaking the street names? Have you selected a voice that uses the Text-to-speach (TTS) feature? From the main screen press, "Tools", then "Settings", then "Language." Next to the voices that will speak street names, you will see the (TTS) designation. Press one of these and the unit should tell you the street names.

My Garmin 255W doesn't speak the name of street, why?

You will need to do the following to get your unit to speak street names.
Tools/Settings/Language/Voice,select one that has TTS after its name.
I would suggest that you go on Google and download the 60 page complete Manual which also has Troubleshooting in it.

Text to Speech doesnt speak street names

I experienced the same problem. Out of the box the audio worked. Then suddenly it stopped working. After experimenting I found the if I powered the unit off and back on it started to work again, then quit. After a few tries I discovered that if you click the unit into the car mount, the audio will stop and not return until you take it out of the car mount and cycle the power.

-- Not a very satisfactory answer I know, but I would be interested to know if all units do this or just mine.

Nuvi 750 stopped saying street names

Press the wrench/tools button at the main menu. Select the icon with the lips (language). You should see (2) buttons labeled American English. The first one makes all of the text on the Nuvi in the English alphabet. The second button is for the voice. If it just says "American English", then it will only say "Left" or "Right". Press this button and select a TTS voice (Text to Speech), like Jill, Jack, Daniel.....etc. That will give you back your street names.

Why stopped voicing street names?

As far as I am aware, Streetpilot C330 doesn't call street names. Check this specifications sheet on garmin's website:

Help - my Garmin 260W no longer announces street names. How can I get this feature to reactivate????

All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting, please follow these steps:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench Icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Language*
  4. Touch on the blue rectangle that corresponds with Voice
  5. Touch on a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Touch Ok
The voice has now been changed.

If this is not what you meant, please reply with further details. If you found the solution resolved your issue, kindly take a moment to award this a Fixya rating in appreciation of my efforts.

Thank you.

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. – I would greatly appreciate a FixYa! rating if the solution I provided fixed or helped you resolve your problem.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

I have the Nuvi 200, and the voice does not tell you street names. It just says right or left.
