    BLACK SOOT

  • ur2bugnme Nov 05, 2008

I have a geXL144 also that is having the same problem as the other person on your post. Why do gas stove burners create soot on them and continue to make a sizzling noise? How can I fix this problem. I just bought new burners less than 6 months ago.

I have the same problem could this be because the stove is set for natural gas, not propane gas?

Chanciec sounds like the unit isn't set for the proper fuel. Usually see this when natural gas unit is set for propane. See if the installation directions show converting the gas and adjusting the burners. You are running with too much fuel and not enough air. Since You haven't said what brand or type of range, if sealed burner, the venturnes in the center of the burners are what sets the air adjustment. Hope this at least tells you why this is happening.

I have a stanley superstar range and the problem is that there is like a black tar on the range, how do i clean this

Replace the burner head/s. You'll notice that they are warped with age and are burning un-evenly with white flame tips. That will take care of the soot probllem.

What can I do to prevent this stove from covering my pot with black soot every time I cook on it?

Make sure the pressure regulator located on the gas line is functioning correctly. If there's any orange color in the flame it's possible the regulator is malfunctioning. Another reason may be the gas/air mixture ring may be clogged with spilled matter covering it which would restrict the air entering the burner .

The gas company red flagged my water heater because of black soot being produced. What could be causing the black soot?

A properly adjusted gas burner does not produce soot. your burner is defective. call a plumber to get it serviced or replaced.

How tp clean black soot off bottom of turkey pot

If you are cooking with propane or natural gas, you may need a new regulator for your range, the black soot is most likely too much gas being used to make the flame. But, as for the soot on the bottom of your pans, try letting the pan soak in a mixture of baking soda and water, then attack it with a brillo pad. Hope this helps!

I am using propane for my cooktop but all my pots and pans have been turning burnt black soot on the bottoms. It's ruining all my other dishes now from the dishwasher spreading it all over, We tried...

You don't have the right Gas to Air ratio..... Not enough air to the burners or you are running to low of gas pressure for propane... Propane takes a smaller orfice or operate than Natural Gas.....
You should have 10" of WC for Propane operation..
You will need a manometer to check it.
The flame should be a blue color with no yellow in it. There should be air shutters right at the orfice to each burners. You will have to play with the adjustment to get the best blue flame with no yellow in the flame.... Hope this helps.....

Soot deposits from my brand new downdraft jenn-air gas cooktop

Is this on LP or Natural gas? If LP was it converted to LP? In any event,The air shutter must be adjusted on the gas burner tube. You need more air. The valve orifice may also need adjusting.

Black burner

theres no danger.its the residue from the gas.if using propane,it burns very dirty and leaves soot.if natural gas its the same but not as bad.you can simply just wipe them down with water but use an old rag because the soot is very dirty.if using an electric oven/burner the discoloration of the element is from the heat and is normal.also if the oven is gas the soot will eventually clog the holes/orfices in the burner and it will cause some issues.hopes this helps--let me know.
