I~m considering that you already have turned everything off (computer, scanner, all the power) and turned on again. Your parallel port may be damaged. You shoult try to use your scanner in another PC, if it works, you will have to replace the parallel port. (there are some PCI cards with parallel port, it´s cheaper than to replace the entire motherboard.

Drivers HP scanjet 4400c for windows 7

This worked for me:
Do NOT connect scanner before these first few steps
1. Download & save win xp drivers from HP website: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=28447&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=28441&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228
The 63.4mb file is the only one you'll need
2. Right-click on the saved file and go to its properties. Under the compatibility tab, set the file to run with win xp service pack 3. Apply changes and close properties dialogue.
3. Right click on the same file and choose 'run as administrator'. Accept any windows prompts that may appear and let the program & drivers install.
4. Once the software has finished installing, connect the scanner to your computer (via USB) and turn the scanner on.
5. Restart the computer without unplugging or turning the scanner off.
6. Your scanner should now work fine with the HP Precisionscan Pro utility.

My scanner hp sj 4400c can not send photos and documents, any solution?

What do you mean by can not send photos or documents? Do you mean that you can't launch the scan to e-mail option from the scanner button?

What OS do you have? Did you install the full software (if available) or the basic driver from HP? If you installed the basic driver or a driver from the OS, then you will need to scan from the computer itself. Then save the scan to a file. Open your e-mail program and add the file as an attachment. If you have the full software installed, you need the monitor program running and the HP software set up. I recommend trying to scan from the computer first.

If the scanner does not respond to a scan command from the computer, what error do you get? Check if the scanner unit is locked and unlock it if needed (the lock is on the left side of the unit). Next try a new data cable. (It's a standard USB A/B male/male cable or a bi-directional parallel cable.) Did the scanner unit light up and move inside the cabinet? If it doesn't move or light up, then the unit needs service.

The software and drivers are available here for supported OS versions: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=28447&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=28441&taskId=135 . The supported OS versions that I saw are Win95 through XP.

The manuals are available here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&lang=en&cc=us&docIndexId=64179&taskId=101&prodTypeId=15179&prodSeriesId=28441 .

I hope this helps.

How do I find hp scanjet 4400c for win 7

Hi whitecloudy !
Hp doesn' t support your unit anymore since Windows XP and it's a shame . Here are 3 workaround solutions :

solution one:
You can get your unit working in WIA mode if you can follow this :
make sure your XP ( yes XP ) driver is correctly installed .
Download FreeKapture from
http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html
Launch Freekapture , clic on Scan , select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Your scanner will run . If you choose HP PrecionScan Pro , program will hang .
Note : no slides or negatives scans possible in WIA mode but the rest works .
solution two :
If you have the W XP install disc , you can install a virtual version of W XP on your machine from http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
solution three :
If you still have the install disc , you can also partition your primary and install W XP on the new partition from http://download.cnet.com/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html.
Back up your data first.

Have a nice day ,
Best regards,
Fanaudi .

How to clean the underside of the scanner glass on an HP4400C flatbed scanner.

This is acutally easier than it looks. I just had the same problem with a cloudy film starting to form underneath the glass on my older HP 4400C scanner.

First completely remove the hinged top lid by lifting straight up on both long ends of the lid - notice the 2 hinges on the back end of the lid will come straight up and out of the body of the scanner, still attached to the lid.

Next look down inside the 2 hinge holes (on the main body of the scanner where the lid hinges just came out of) and you will see a screw in each hole. Remove both screws using a phillips screwdriver. This will allow the rear end of the scanner to come apart enough so you can now lift it up a few inches to separate it and get your hand inside there to clean the underside of the glass with a soft cloth - BUT JUST REMEMBER THE FRONT END OF THE SCANNER WILL STILL BE CONNECTED, so don't pull it too far apart because it could snap and break something that is still holding the front end together. (I could not figure out how to separate the front end piece, and then I realized I didn't have to).

So on the rear end of the scanner, now carefully pull the light upper colored plastic apart from the lower dark plastic just enough so you can get your hand inside the compartment and use a soft cloth to clean the underside of the glass. I just used a small piece of an old cotton t-shirt with a couple little dabs of water on it and then just kept rubbing the dirty areas on the underside of the glass over and over until all the dust film/streaks disappeared and the glass was once again clean and all clear.

Then gently lower the glass back down and line up the plastic pieces together on the rear end and put the 2 screws back in the hinge holes, and then reinsert the hinges in their slots and lower the lid back on top of the scanner glass and it is ready to go again !!

Hope this works for you like it did for me.

HP4400c Yielding Poor Image quality

I was having the same problem- dpi didn't have any effect.
Changing the SHARPEN to "High" and Descreen worked for me. My research showed the alternative fix was a new scanner, or at the very least a new bulb/power supply (which would probably cost more than a new scanner)
