Thereis a T-10 or T-15 Torx Head screw in the recess at the end of the crankshaft. Loosen it (it may stay in the end of the drum) and drum will come off. Clutch is threaded onto crankshaft. Loosen it counterclockwise, but carefully. Rap the inside part near the crank with like a flatpblade chisel. Spraying the center with penetrating oil beforehand may assist in this step. Use Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster. vDon't strike the outer shoes of the clutch!

I have a Black Max 18 inch chain saw i have a terrible time pulling the starter rope i have to c clamp it down if i just step on it it pulls out what causes this?

Strip or the starter rope mechanism, the coil spring and lubricate everything. Look for places where the rope might be getting caught. It is a good opportunity to change the cord. Also check the starter clutch assembly. Check the decompressor valve.

How to replace the pull string on my Cub Cadet ST2020 weed eater.

Very fun job Not. Very involved and time consuming.

First your should be about 3 long some unit uses slight longer ropes and it is probably a number 3-1/2 rope.

  1. Need you to separate the upper drive assembly from the engine assembly. You may to disconnect the throttle cable and the ignition kill wiring.
  2. Remove the clutch cover.
  3. Disconnect and remove the spark plug.
  4. Install a piston stop in place of the spark plug.
  5. Remove the clutch drum. Has small screw in center; usually has a Trox head on it.
  6. Remove the clutch assembly. Usually has left handed threads so turn it clockwise.
  7. Once the clutch is removed then you need remove the starter cover assembly and the air cleaner cover assembly.
  8. Once the starter cover assembly is off remove the pull rope pulley and check for damage.
  9. Depending the pulley design you can now install a new rope first or you need to re install the pulley.
  10. Tighten the pulley fully by turning the direction as you would pull it until it stops and back off one turn.
  11. If the pull rope hasn't already been install install it now. Otherwise make you have the pull handle on the rope and release the pulley tension slowly until the rope is tight.
  12. Now re-assemble everything in reverse order.

How do I replace starter rope on a poulan 445 pole saw?

I have pulled out the spark plug and stuffed some rope into the cylinder. The piston will then not be able to travel the full distance and will keep the clutch from turning. Use rope that will not shed particles. This will let you remove the clutch bell.

Starter rope does not pull out

Either the recoil spring and system is jammed/damaged, or the engine is seized. What equipment is it on? You can find how to remove the pull-start assembly and see what is happening. Remove the spark plug and see if you can rotate the engine by hand (you may have to remove the starter assembly and cover, or if it has an output shaft such as a mower with no clutch, you can carefully turn the blade or shaft with plug OUT.) If the engine can turn, then it would be the starter. Likely it has damaged pawls or the spring has broken. Sometimes on old mowers, the rope jams up in there, or the spring rusts. Even dirt can build up in there from insects or dust.

The pull cord doesnt pull out too far, seems as if it has a lock on . makita plm4101

The rope may be bound up in the recoil pulley assembly. If the starter rope is at the handle, you should have about 6-7 feet of rope on the recoil pulley.
It should be about a #3.5 size rope. If it has a clutch starter, it may be froze up. You will not know until you can get in there to look at it. If you feel you can not handle find a professional shop.

Handle came off starter rope and rope rewound on spool. Took off power boom and took out tork screws and loosened cover from engine, but there is a metal disc, looks like a clutch cover on the end of the...

You shouldn't have to remove it. Just wide the disk up again to get tension on the recoil spring (lots of tension... enough to pull the rope all the way back in). poke the rope back out the hole ( the hardest part of the job) and put the handle back on. You should be back in action
